the problem with cones in the bay is they are sucking in warm air which equals fail. if u want a cone, it needs a direct cold air feed and a heat shield, like Bower's. The BMC CDA systems are great, we have one on my dads car, and Joz had one on his car. they rock. but they can be expensive. best bang for buck with induction is a K&N panel filter and retain the stock air intake system. may not be "pretty" but it works a treat. so, u have NGK Iridum sparks, Magnecor leads and its already an S meaning different mani, ECU and injectors, so she should already be a bit quicker than a stock UK model. panel filter will be a good job, read up on the well known review of Blitz and HKS induction systems, u will be surprised how poorly they get rated (i dont have the link to hand but someone will). In theory as an S she should already be knocking on the door of 100bhp anyway. especially if u are running her on Super Unleaded and not dirty UK spec 95 ron (remember she will be used to higher RON in Japland). after that, u could always advance the timing slightly as Scutch0 did on his old motor, but i'd be lookin at making her exhaust breath better with a new stainless system. all that shouldn't be too far off 100bhp tbh. and even if it isnt quite 110bhp, strip the rear seats out to improve the power to weight. just some ideas that will be easier and cheaper than an engine swap just yet. Phil.

i have an erection lookin at that. that is all Phil. -
excellent choice, I've been running those for 5 years, they are uber. im not meaning to piss on your parade or imply u cant drive man. i would just hate to see anything happen to the motor and especially YOU due to inexperience. u have yourself a TRULY gorgeous car man, i will enjoy seeing u develop her from standard, and if u do eventually go FTE, then this is the best base to add it to! Phil.

i may be drunk steve, but i aim to please! Phil.

i know its not the most fun approach, but if i'd been let loose with even a CT9 at a younger age i'd have been in a hedge. fact. and bearing in mind i had something of a headstart with the standard to which i was taught to drive than is typically available, that says something. i'm not saying everyone else is shit, im simply saying those who taught me where the trained to the highest level possible within the security services here in NI and despite that i still think a period of learning is required by any young inexperienced driver. everyone crashes, i did, mark did, we all have our one bump. some of course have more. but until u have had your first bump u wont feel that utter dred and panic that occurs as soon as u realise what has happened. and it takes that to make u catch a grip of urself and your actions. once this maturity is gained, u are in a better stead for handling more grunt. just how i see it after many years of driving and owning an n/a and turbo EP and having done my advanced licence and qualified observer status. Phil.

my honest advice, as someone slightly older and wiser, is to get a good handle on the 4efe first. u need to have a few scares in that first. the 4e with a rolla mani and a decent panel filter, sparks and leads is a nippy enough little shit to get u into enough trouble, trust me, i did it. u need to know the cars limits and more importantly YOUR limits before u just bounce into a turbo. people are quick enough to tell u to turbo her, and i agree, it gives the best bang for buck. but no one ever gives the shitty boring advice that no one wants to hear, which is what im gonna do now man. take it from me, i am a qualified advanced driving observer, and im not saying this to shit on your parade or to be heard, i honestly think u need to get a solid handle on the 4efe first. she is more than capable of putting a smile on your face. dont just assume that u need a turbo to have fun. i had ALOT of fun til i was 26 with the 4efe. if u bounce into a turbo without enough experience behind the wheel u could get caught out assuming your the man and u can drive like the stig. we all do it. we all have egos, and we all think we're the shit behind the wheel. i'd be lying if i claimed to be any different. sometimes a sound approach will lead to the most fun in the end man. for 5 yrs i got a handle on this car, where the limit was, what my limits before and after the advanced licence where. and now that i've got the K1, im yet to SERIOUSLY catch myself out. it will happen one day, when i'll come away from an incident thinking "holy shit, i shouldnt have made that" and i'll then know where the limit is. dont be too hasty to write off the 4efe man, get some years and/or miles under your belt with her. Phil.

ladies and Gentlemen, we have an MOT! yeah baby! got my car back! big big thanks to Alan E and Joel for all their work! cheers lads!!!! got some blue silicone bulb covers off ebay, fitted one to the illuminated ignition barrel, and gonna get the SR cluster circuit board swapped over soon to fix that up nicely. B-Pillar bars are ready at Jays - score. currently running OEM...yes...OEM...headlight bulbs that are truly fugly. I have decided not to waste money on HIDs again, they are too difficult to get a pattern from for MOT, so i think some nice bulbs will just do rightly, plus, uber cheaper than HIDs. got me car back! woohoo! nice 2 weeks driving the Alfa, but lookin forward to commuting in Project BadgerSports again. Phil.

bear in mind that Joz spent alot of time, effort and money trying to get the most out of his 5E including management and ITBs and making her high compression. i'd ask him and Jay what their feelings on it revving out were, they'll give u their honest experiences. i dont think it went to 9k tho from what i recall. Phil.

i cant confirm that later spec calipers will fit a 96 man, I've never tried it myself. im sure it could be done, but hopefully someone on here who may have done it will see this thread. Phil.

it wasn't that Military life wasnt for me dude, it was simply that Fighter Controller wasn't. I wanted to be a pilot and refused to settle for anything else. i did contemplate a couple of other RAF role options, but in the end, university called me. i do those things because it is something that I experiences doing as a young kid. i went to many of the Normandy sites with my dad from the age of 10 or so. maybe younger, i dont recall. then i did a WW1 trip with the school. we have family friends in Normandy, and everytime we go over we try to get to Ranville cemetery to lay flowers for William Elliot, a Private with the 12th Bn Yorkshire Parachute Reg who died 12th June 1944 at the age of 20. His sister is a friend of my grandparents. she was unable to get to the grave site, so for years we have done it for her and sent her pictures. Then last year when we went, my mum asked my dad and I before we left to please lay some flowers on an unknown grave, a mark of respect and gratitude as no one else would be laying flowers for that fallen man. It was a request on her part that moved me greatly, and I got a pic or two of that too for her as she wasn't there. 3 of my great uncles were in WW2, one of whom flew in the Berlin airlift, and he and his brother were both in Burma. The third was wounded in the head by shrapnel in Normandy. My great grandfather was wounded in the leg in WW1 and the medics went to amputate the limb, only a German doctor who had been captured interrupted and said "no, i can save that leg", and he did. the thing about most wars is, the poor lads doing the shit day to day on BOTH sides, have no real desire to be there. in WW1 and WW2, the soldiers had no real malicious hatred of the other side (generally speaking), they were all there doing a job that they were told had to be done - germans included. hell, if u have seen the film Joyeaux Noel, its about the well known incident from WW1 when on Christmas day the English/French and germans all congregated in no-mans land and kicked football together. its simple facts like this that always make me wander over to the German headstones in the Normandy cemeteries too to acknowledge their presence. Many of those young men didnt want to be there either. this burning of poppy wreaths is just something i cant stomach. i did watch the video, and all i have been able to think so far is, thank FUCK that didnt happen in Belfast. Had it, i think i'd be even more fucked about it and could have been driven to go into town to object to it in person with everyone else, rather than simply talk about the incident online. i just dont understand some people. Phil.
