just gotta find a decent one mate, got the car pulled to bits so can't use it and not got alot of money spare at the minute, selling a few bits and pieces to raise funds
-
you're best off going to a shop mate, if you get a crap one it might not work properly or be inacurate then you have the ball ache of posting it back and waiting, pop to halfords or the like and pick one up mate, mine's a draper one from motor world, cost me 20 quid

Hi stavros, yeah there's a hint of blue to it aswell, done a comp test and getting 175psi across all 4 pots. I hadn't used it for 3-4 days and went for a drive to the petrol station yesterday (gentle drive) and it was smokey when i pulled up, only done 4 miles at 60mph lol

I do a bit of clay pidgeon shooting, got a 32" browning gt 12 bore, a bsa airsporter, webley excel and just sold my model 34 diana .22 a month or so ago. shooting the clay's is a tad expensive though if you make a day of it!

thermostat stuck open?

thought you were supposed to do a comp test from cold mate?? Take king lead out the coil thing on the bulk head, take your spark plugs out, screw in your compression tester and get someone to turn the engine over till the needle on you tester gauge stops going up (usually 10-15 seconds) let us know your results mate
-
Ah right i know the kit you mean, block tester! i'll give it a try. took the turbo and manifold off thought i'd have a look at the exhaust valves while i was there, should there be any oil on the valve stems? (at the top when you look in the exhaust port) the valves in cylinders 1, 2 and 4 have oily deposits on them, not much but you can see they're wet (where the seal rubs on the valve)

Sniff test??? lol what's that? only thing i can think of is that i haven't torqued one of the head bolts down properly and it's leaking under extreme pressure. no oil in intercooler (front mount) there is a little black gunk on the inner walls of the pipework but not enough to form a puddle or anything, nothing from the dump valve. Car runs sweet, drives well and is feckin quick so there's no loss of power ect, i'm stumped

headgasket? turbo? anyone?

Just spoke to a workmate who was driving behind me on my way into work today, he says the smoke's white! so checked the coolant and it's used a little also used about a litre and a half of oil in 500 miles too. what you guys think?
-
car doesn't miss a beat, plugs are all new and fine, nice brown tinge to them, oil's circulating properly, i'm hoping it's the turbo can't be arsed to strip the engine again!!
-
when you lift off after giving it stick there's no smoke but as soon as you touch the accelerator pedal it smokes quite bad for a couple of seconds, clears up till you do the same thing again, it's as if there's a build up of oil in the inlet mani, but there can't be as i've disconected the pcv pipe. @rinseep82 not got a catch can, i disconected the pcv pipe, venting to atmosphere and blanked off the mani side. using toyota green coolant, it's go my head done in, i expected a little smoke but not this much lol
-
Yeah mate, will do, been faffin about with it all day yesterday and today but wiil take it off the car in the next couple of days mate, it's still smokin so either 2 dud turbo's or something wrong with the engine. Starting to get annoyed with it now lol
-
bump, can anyone suggest ownt else?
-
any ideas peeps?
-
i don't know anyone else with a spare turbo matey and i'm broke from this rebuild! lol
-
that's what i thought mate, but for both of these turbo's to run fine then smoke on wind down seems a bit odd. shouldn't be oil seals but saying that i got 2 bags of oil seals in the gasket kit from toyota, 8 in each bag now i wonder if there's 8 specifically for the intake valves and 8 specifically for the exhaust??
-
Hey guys i need some help, i've just finished running in my engine as i had rebuilt it with new piston rings, cylinder hone, bottom end bearings and new oil and water pumps, head was dismantled, valves ground, new valve stem oil seals and a skim. it's dode the 1k miles mark and thought great i can give it some stick now. Now the car flys, pulls really hard in every gear but on rundown from high revs i touch the accelerator just slightly and there's a plume of blue smoke, foot hard down and there's no smoke. I'll give you a scenario, start the car from cold, no smoke, let it warm up, drive it

avoid the stainless mani's mate, they can't take the heat, the cheap ones and shite stainless and absorb nitrogen which makes them brittle and a twat to weld up again, go for a mild steel imo.
-
If you need a hand with yer building repairs mate just give me a shout, i'm no expert like but know a fair bit! was talking to chrissy cee on sunday and he mentioned you..said you're a good lad! the offer's there mate if you want a hand cheers, chris.

checked all pipes, all ok. just done a compression test and got 1. 155psi 2. 160psi 3. 160psi 4. 160psi so all about the same but still smoking on run down.

take the rad cap off when it's cold, start it up with the cap off and let it run, see if the coolant flows in the rad, if not the pumps fooked hence the hot top pipe and cold bottom. HTH chris.
