Hi guys, thought it was about time I started a build thread on my Glanza V, hope this gives you guys some inspiration and ideas on your own builds, so here it goes, hope you like it So here's a spec list of the modifications so far Chassis 15" Rota Grids Yokohama S drive tyres BC Racing coilovers Ultra Racing Rear anti roll bar Custom 4mm wheel spacers Brakes WMS 275x22mm kit Yellow stuff brake pads Hel Braided Brake lines Bodywork Carbon Culture Front Bumper Genuine Livesport Side Skirts Varis Replica Rear Bumper Jam Style reverse bonnet scoop Custom Front Splitter Rear Mud flaps Engine Stage 2 forged 4E-FTE Tuning developments TD04 Turbo Kit with external wastegate Tuning developments 255LPH Fuel Pump JPerformance Cat Back Exhaust system JPerformance Intercooler Kit Magnecor Blue ignition lead kit Sard Fuel Pressure regulator Denso 430cc Injectors Race spec Rocker Cover Roose Motorsport Hose kit Polybush engine and gearbox mounts Drivetrain Spec 6 Puk Paddle Clutch Interior Stri Racing oil Pressure Gauge Stri Racing Boost Pressure Gauge HKS Type 1 Turbo Timer Greedy Duel SBC boost controller Greedy E-Manage Ultimate ECU I bought my 1999 Glanza V a couple years ago now, it was completely standard, appart from the window tint and a HID kit, I looked for months to try and find one that was in original condition and I must say that was a challenge in its self Firstly i took off the ugly rear fog light and rewired it in to the tail light, and fitted a double filament bulb (sorry no pics), Next on the list was some wheels and suspension, after looking for a while I decided Rota Grids were the obvious choice to go for, I then chose some blitz 40mm lowering springs, (sorry no pic of the springs) Next on the shopping list was a exhaust system, good old Dave at tm developments sorted me out with a J-Performance cat back (R.I.P buddy) I then bought a toyosports decat , ultra racing rear anti-roll bar, removed air-con system, fitted a apexi air filter and relocation kit that I made, done a service and painted a few bits here and there and just cleaned her up a bit as it needed a bit of tlc now with the air con out the way, was time to fit a fmic and a new front bumper, Mike at tuning Developments sorted me out with a J-Performance intercooler kit, after having a good look for front bumpers I went ahead and got a carbon culture front bumper as I hadn't seen one before and thought it still kept very close the original 99 spec bumper style, after hours of prep work I took the bumper round the corner to my local painters and they done a fantastic job and charged me £120 which I thought was pretty reasonable I managed to pick up some BC racing coilovers, so cracked on and got them fitted and took it for a blast up the road to make sure it was all kushtyy, now for the bad bit........ BANG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Basically when I was road testing it after fitting the coilovers it went like the klappers, I couldn't believe how fast it was, to be fair I was thrashing it and then bang, at first I thought it was my gearbox as I was at the top of 3rd gear when it blew, I turned the engine off immediately whilst doing 100mph and carefully pulled over to a gradual stop, popped the bonnet to find oil everywhere! smelt the oil and it was engine oil not gear oil, had a good look around the engine and found a hole the size of a golf ball in cylinder 4 bore, my mate towed me back to my work as luckily I was only 5 mins away well the weekend came round and I had plenty to do, dropped out the engine and had a good look around and I managed to put a hole in the front and back of the block on cylinder 4 and nearly went through the sump! stripped the engine down to find out what actually failed and this is what was left of the piston and con rod To be honest I didn't know what to do next, I knew if I put another standard engine in how long would that last, so after a think about what to do I decided to go forged, and bought a stage 2 forged engine and a td04 turbo kit with a external wastegate from tuning developments, then the fun began.............. Its amazing what a new engine and some paint can do! the only problem I had was when I came to fit the cooling fan, because most people go with a half sized rad with this type of turbo kit you don't use the standard cooling fan, so I made some aluminium brackets and fitted two slim line fans the other side of the radiator whilst the bumper was off I came up with a idea to make a splitter, I managed to get a poly carbonate sheet from a glass company that was next door to my work, put my bumper on the sheet and used the curved line of the bumper as a guide to dray a line to get the curve of the splitter, dragged the bumper back about 3 inches from the line drawn and then marked a line on the inside of the bumper, then I cut it out using a jigsaw and sanded down the rough edges, bought some gloss black wrap and wrapped it, job done! cost me a total of about £20 I ran the new engine in for 800 miles and done 3 oil changes in that time as advised by Mike at tuning developments, once i had run in the new engine i phoned Mike and booked my car in for a e-manage ultimate and map, so then took the long steady drive to Warrington and prayed that all the late nights and money spent weren't for nothing Very pleased at how it turned out, couldn't have done it without the help from Mike, so in the mean time I just enjoyed it well guys its been a while since ive updated my build thread, ive missed a lot of pictures along the way last year I got around to uprating my front brakes, I decided to go for wms kit, and changed all the brake lines for hel braided ones :-) also I managed to get hold of some genuine livesport side skirts and a varis rear bumper, later on that year I decided to go to japfest and I must say it was the best weekend id had in ages, I then had the crazy challenge of prepping and getting the side skirts and rear bumper fitted in time, it took hours and hours of prep work to get them to fit right, had them painted at my local painters and fitted them the Friday morning before japfest! talk about lastminute.com UPDATE 22/2/14 I took the glanza off the road towards the end of 2013 because of winter and pretty glad I did considering the amount of flooding that's been about! then I saw this in Februarys issue of banzai magazine! I was well chuffed about the small feature in the street life section, I know its not a huge double page spread but still it made my day lol in the meantime ive been busy removing the engine and front suspension assembly to underseal the inner wheel arches and repaint the engine bay UPDATE 1/3/14 well got cracking with the long tedious job of rubbing down the entire bay and making sure the front arches are clean ready for underseal next weekend I plan on undersealing the arches, roll on! stone chipped the front inner arches for a bit more protection against the English weather! I also masked up the engine bay ready for paint and covered the car to stop all the over spray looks so much better! really caked it on nice and thick also I painted the engine bay and inner arches 1st coat Final coat looks so fresh, pictures aren't brilliant looks so much better in the flesh! EASTER WEEKEND UPDATE well I started the long process of building the Glanza back up, I started fitting the brake and clutch master cylinders, ABS removal kit, power steering rack and hoses, fuel filter assembly and fuel lines My mate works as a electro plater, so I got him to nickel plate some bolts for me, they look brand new and so shiny lol Whilst the engine was out, I thought it was a good idea to change the cambelt and water pump, and im glad I did as the water pump was leaking slightly anyway I then fitted a low temperature thermostat to go with the half sized rad I then got on and put the suspension assembly, wings and wheel arch linings back on, I managed to get some clips from Toyota for the wheel arch linings as when I removed the old ones most of them broke as they were quite brittle I sent my windscreen scuttle trim off to ott-designs to get carbon dipped, I got it back the other day, here's a few pictures of it fitted Also I sent a few bits off to Bim at Pugz Polishing, heres my rocker cover he done for me which Ive fitted with new spark plug seals and gasket I also got my mate to nickel plate my power steering and alternator pulleys and nuts, here a picture of them fitted I also got the brackets that sit under the headlights nickel plated as they were a bit rusty, they look brand new lol Fitted my high flow fuel rail which I got from Tuning Developments, looks very nice indeed I finally got round to fitting my cusco bmcs which ive had for about a year lol, I also had all the power steering brackets nickel plated as they were gold and a bit pitted, again they look brand new! Back to the engine, I fitted a Tuning developments lightened flywheel and reused my spec 6 puk paddle clutch as it has plenty of life left in it Fitted the Gearbox with a new quaife fitted, can wait to see how much difference this makes I also had the gear linkage bracket on the gearbox nickel plated I managed to find out the thread size of the gearbox level and drain plugs and got my self some magnetic ones Just a quick picture before the engine goes back in Some pictures with the engine back in, I was so paranoid of scratching the engine bay after the fresh paint job, but all was well and not a scratch looks really clean and fresh, here's some from underneath Next I wanted something a little bit different, Ive only seen this a few times and I think it looks quite good, so I spoke to Ricky at race tech and asked him to make me a top mounted td04 kit, here's some pictures of the manifold fitted Well next on the list was the wiring, I didn't want to do a full on wire tuck but I did just want to tidy it up a bit, so I stripped off all the protective conduit and started re-arranging the wires and taping them up That's it so far, keep an eye out and ill post some more updates when ive done some more work
