Ollieh17
Recon turbo, new turbo set up on my charade, similar to starlet. Replaced the turbo for a recon as no boost and suspected turbo. New recon turbo in and still no boost. Car cuts out with intercooler pipes blocked which indicates no boost leaks. External wastegate sealing ring in.Ive swapped so many turbos on my starlet i thought i could solve it. Got me stumped, turbo primed with start up oil that came with it and prined without efi like starlet. Its a garret gt17, rotated the turbo housing slightly also. Any more things to try? starletezy
Sounds like a weird one have you tried looking into weather there's a problem with the waste gate ?
Ollieh17
Its brand new from TD, theres no exhaust from the screamer to suggest its leaking
5e colin
is the proppeler moving freely ?? try moving it with fingers
Ollieh17
Yeh moves fine
Bug679
The wastegate welded properly ? And it sealed alright after rotating it ? Don't know much lol just throwing a couple things out there
Ollieh17
Ive tack welded the actuator bracket in place seems to seal good. Im not if i could have affected anything rotating it?
Bug679
Ya might be as well welding the whole wastegate shut completely any leak or if it's big enough y'all get nothing man any whistling noises when your driving it ?
Ollieh17
Praying to god its not a fucked turbo again
fiddlersport
Turbo rotating freely ?Primed turbo prior to installation ?
Ollieh17
Yup primed and filled with turbo start oil that came with it. Turbo spins fine.i think it may be the wastegate
JamesD89
Wastegate spring too strong maybe? how much boost you trying to run? Not familiar with the Charade but seems strange when everything is new or rebuilt.
Ollieh17
Its 0.8 spring. Goes from -0.5 up to just below zero but no further.i think the turbos shot
adzy
Pre turbo exhaust leak or internal wastegate not closed properly?
Ollieh17
Sorted it. Silicone hose inside the air filter was pushed in too far and sucking against plastic
