HellaFlush
Hello, I've been shopping around for a first car and have been pointed towards Starlets by a few people. Always seen them around, just never thought much more of them. Looking at your normal 1300 GLS what do people normally get quoted for insurance? I've been getting between £1600-£1800 fully comp with the black box. Cheers.

Justforfun
Welcome, if it's you're first car I'd just get a micra or something that won't cost an arm and a leg to insure.
HellaFlush
Thanks fellas £1800 a year is more than affordable for me. Although I was just wondering if that's sort of normal pricing. You'd be surprised what I get quoted for a Micra, never got one below £2000 :/ If a Starlet comes up cheap around here then I'll probably get one
jimmymac101
When i got my first starlet i paid £2800 year .... first car at 17yrs old Starlet na GLS model James
burty
No matter what car you decide to get insurance is gonna cost you so for the sake of 200 quid either way I'd get the car you really want , paying all that for a car your unsure about just doesn't seem worth it
Dale SR
Go for the starlet there perfect first cars, Either way your going to be paying big money for insureance if that's your quotes

HellaFlush
Going to phone up a few insurance companies when home from work and see where I'm at. If it doesnt seem too good to be true then I'll be getting one when I find one haha Cheers
jimmymac101
Try and stay away from black boxes .... they will fine you heavily if you drive bad ( spirited driving ) as they measure rev range, speed and how harsh your braking is! James
HellaFlush
With a black box were talking like £4K easy... They won't fine me at all. In fact the only thing they will do is raise your premium when you come to renew next year... Unless of course your always doing 70 everywhere. It's just for 1 year and then I aint got to have it due to having a years no claims. Never heard of them measuring your rev range?? That would be pretty hard as they're only little GPS boxes when it comes down to it. Although like you say they measure how hard you brake, accelerate and steer. Also when and where you drive Meant without a black box* Edited August 10, 2016 by HellaFlush
daniel_g
Fuck getting a black box. Some dont like you driving past 10pm.
HellaFlush
Why wouldn't you want to save thousands? It's only for a year. Soms companies even just have them in there for 3 months and you still get it cheap. Could put the money you save into getting something bigger or just modifying your current one?Just my two cents....
daniel_g
Im not in the position where i need a black box.If you need to have one to insure a car cheaper and are happy with having one then crack on lad.
Dale SR
I know someone who has a black box in his fiesta ST, After it got fitted he didn't give a shit. It has recordings of him doing some silly speeds, even how harsh his braking is at times! I'm looking forward to seeing what the insurers do with all this data hahaha
StuDoc 72
Most young people cant get insurance these days without a black box.
