Don't say give it to a machine shop, I wouldn't ask if I didn't want to do it myself :)

Anyway, what way do the seals come out ? I'd imagine they lift up with a pair of long nose pliers or similar but they seem fairly firm when I tried that. What's the best way to do it ?

- I have the valves & springs etc. Out of the head just need to remove the seals

Also, when reseating the valves, will I grind them in using the old seals or new ones or is it irrelevant ?

Many thanks in advance,

Regards

You should be able to give them a little squeeze one way and then the other with the pliers and then wiggle them out. You'll get it down after a few.

Or they do actually manufacture special pliers specifically for the job.

Seat the valves either way, I lubricated the guide and seal when doing so.

I've bought a valve lapping stick, I've read it's not the best to do with a drill

I've lapped in valves loads of times by hand its a cunt of a job but has to done, if u get good at it 5min to 10min per valve should do it, use the corse paste first then the fine stuff, u will see a good even shine all the way round the valve seat when done, its an idea to check them with petrol when fitted as wel,

It shouldn't take more than a few minutes on each one if the seats and valve faces are decent.

ha ha ha ha few minutes no chance man fully seating a valve by hands takes ages not in 123 its not becouse the valve looks shiny from the paste its 100% seated it takes keen eye

Shouldn't take no more than a few mins. You not building race motors here lads!

Spend too long on it, you'll end up fucking the seat, which is an even more cu*t of a job.

5-7 minutes of actual grinding is what I was told.

I'll give one a go tomorrow starting with coarse ending with fine and go for a 1mm seat as Colin says.

I'll time it start to finish so from applying the coarse grit to removing the fine grit and I'll report back with pics and a time

They've been seated.

Intake valves tool about 7 mins each start to finish as they were in pretty good condition anyway.

Seated V non seated

On the other hand, exhaust valves took about 15 mins a piece becuase they were quite badly pitted. I ended up doing 2 runs with coats and 1 run with fine.

As before, seated V non seated

Took about 2-2.5 hours in total and is quite therapeutic once you're properly set up for it haha :p
