Custom chassis strengthening

I'm interested to see what custom fabrication people do to their chassis out there, I'm wanting to strengthen mine and apart from the obvious ways I want to see what people are doing

Currently learning how to weld so definitely something to consider, I've heard of people pouring foam in places like sills thats sets rock solid to add extra rigidity, do you think it's worth it on such a short car?

Foam for strength is a thing. Not sure id go to that length though. Cage should be more than enough really.

holy mo thats nuts

seems like it works i did read the negatives of water traps and repair and rust so i would never do it on a starlet as there kinda weak and rusty already we suffer from sills and inner pockets a lot

Wouldnt do the foam idea. It's just asking for corrosion issues. Welded in braces will offer a better solution.

Ive made up braces that run from the firewall (where a cage will eventually join) to the strut towers, then down to the chassis leg where its bolted with crush tubes through to another brace underneath that spans between the chassis legs. Few photos in my thread of the engine bay will show them.

That sounds mint, did you do it all yourself?

Yeap, many years ago now. Havent found a need to cage it yet but will probably eventually end up building one.

Down front is where they are needed, as these old cars don't have subframes
