Georgehburroww Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 I'm interested to see what custom fabrication people do to their chassis out there, I'm wanting to strengthen mine and apart from the obvious ways I want to see what people are doing Quote
5e colin Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 fully seam welld it if you can then braces here and there Quote
Georgehburroww Posted April 25, 2017 Author Posted April 25, 2017 fully seam welld it if you can then braces here and there Currently learning how to weld so definitely something to consider, I've heard of people pouring foam in places like sills thats sets rock solid to add extra rigidity, do you think it's worth it on such a short car? 5e colin Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 foam for strenght ?? nope probly anty rust treatment i thinks but not with foam Quote
Ollieh17 Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 Foam for strength is a thing. Not sure id go to that length though. Cage should be more than enough really. Quote

5e colin Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 holy mo thats nuts seems like it works i did read the negatives of water traps and repair and rust so i would never do it on a starlet as there kinda weak and rusty already we suffer from sills and inner pockets a lot Quote
Starlet__SR Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 Wouldnt do the foam idea. It's just asking for corrosion issues. Welded in braces will offer a better solution. Quote
Stu Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 Ive made up braces that run from the firewall (where a cage will eventually join) to the strut towers, then down to the chassis leg where its bolted with crush tubes through to another brace underneath that spans between the chassis legs. Few photos in my thread of the engine bay will show them. Quote

Stu Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 (edited) Yeap, many years ago now. Havent found a need to cage it yet but will probably eventually end up building one. Edited April 29, 2017 by Stu Quote
maddox710 Posted April 30, 2017 Posted April 30, 2017 Down front is where they are needed, as these old cars don't have subframes Quote
