Brake fire on track!

Recommended Posts

Okay, here's the deal.

I'm building a trackday Starlet. Last time around, here's what happened.

Sometimes when braking hard from 70-75mph, my brakes catch fire very briefly. Maybe for half a second.
Everything is stock.

What can I do to cool the brakes down? Here's the research I've currently done:
- Stock 13" have zero space inside the wheel to cool brakes, got 15" OZ Superturismo being refurbished to be put on.
- Stock brake pads are prone to overheat. What's available, and what's recommended?
- I can't seem to find vented brake discs anywhere... Advice?
- I've got plans to run brake air ducts from the bumper to the heat shield, just before the caliper. Might help cool the brakes in general.

And now that I'm here, what options do I have if I want disc brakes in the back? Currently have stock drum brakes and I have clue how to swap those pads out. Plus they look silly.

To put GT breaks on an ep80 you need the whole hub.

You will also need to adjust the tracking as the front track is wider on a GT

Thanks for the confirmation bud :)

there you go buddy you need the whole hub :(

Well, guess I'll postpone that for now. Wider tires are going on tomorrow, should make a big difference already

You could fit EP90 (P9) NA hubes and brakes which are easier to find in the NL
