keirz
anyone fitted an exhaust manifold without moving the turbo or rad at all?is it possible to*remove efi pipe*remove heatsheild* unbolt 4 nuts from mani to turbo*unbolt mani from blockwill it be possible to just do this or will there be no angle to remove the mani? im hoping to do it without removing rad too. i know im changing my turbo soon anyway but was just gonna whack my mani on some time this week if its an easy enough job.i know the efi pipe and getting at a few of the bolts is a pain, but is it impossible to do with the turbo in place? paul w
You wont get to the nuts at the back of a standard mani. You will be much quicker and easier to take it all off,can be done in an hour and a half, if it's your first time it will take longer due to seized mani nuts etc. Get the nuts soaked in penetrating fluid at least overnight. StarletRick
its dooable with the mani on, but as paul said, its HELLA easier to just take it all off.youll turn the air blue trying to get the rear manifold bolts off.
montanajr
Disconnect oil line and water lines, let the turbo hang down on the exhaust (support it with something though). Clock the turbo slightly, and you should be able to get to the bolts. Dan and I managed it
derf
Its so much easier if you take the turbo off! I tried to do mine without removing the turbo and it was just too much of a ballache.
paul w
It's like driving.....sometimes the longer easier route is quicker than the shorter looking one.
Derek
If the mani never came off the car on its life, those nuts are so tight, how do people manage to take those nuts off? like tools or tips?
paul w
Penetrating fluid and brute strength
derf
The only ones on mine that were really stiff were the turbo studs to the manifold. But if you can get the manifold and turbo off in one, you can clamp the manifold in a vice and use a massive spanner on them.WD40 works well. Starbus
Yes, i've removed and refitted stock manifolds without moving the turbo.MUCH easier with the rad off though.
thunderpants
just unbolt the whole thing buddy. it really isn't worth the hassle of trying to get at them with turbo in place. just soak the nuts in wd40 and if the nuts have never been loosened brute strength is required.
