Had a knock today

Recommended Posts

Howdy.

What happened was, I was tootling along at around 30-35mph on my way to work. The road is completely straight as well. I had a quick thought (have i got my phone?). so i leaned to check it was in my pocket and i felt it was. Then bang!!!! I'd strayed half a foot towards the centre of the road and smashed into a kerbed little traffic island. I hit it so hard i bounced about a foot in the air and landed pretty hard.

The wheel is perfect, it isn't bent at all. But as one of the nuts cracked with the impact it is scratched and chipped as i've tried to get the shite nut off.

The main damage is the shock and the hub. The bracket on the shock which the hub is fastened to is badly buckled and i need a new hub as the thread on the bolt i have tried to undo no longer exists as it has been hacked at so much.

Now, There is a Glanza still being broken in my local scrappy with two front shocks and Tein springs on it. The also have KYB engraved on them as well so im guessing they are at least half decent. So should i grab them or not? Also i have the SR hubs obviously and im led to beleive the hubs are the same as the Glanza ones. Is this true?

Ps. Im a moron

The wheel points inwards at the top if that helps.

Also the tracking is out so much i have to drive turning right to go straight.

Im such a tit. I've never done this before and it couldn't have happened at a more shit time. I've got to sort as much i can out before i go away for two weeks on Sunday and then sort the rest out before JAE.

It is a little further in but it's the pointing you can see the most. The top of the wheel leans into the arch a lot.

Can you bend this magical part of the car i have damaged or is it better to just get another? Also could this be the only thing wrong as im just going off what my dad has told me. I know the tracking is a definately knocked out though.

yeah the long bit with the coiled springy thing on it

;)

Right i'll get the pair of them tomorrow. You never know i may get better handling out of this. What is the difference in the two shocks,KYB glanza and mine. I think i have standard ones from any old N/A.

@ Mikey - Yes im a dipstick although when i did it i was using a few other words to describe myself.

@ Idrees - I am Sir bulb. I am infact the biggest bulb on the planet. I am the sun!!

@ Idrees - I don't think they are bud. They must have been replaced at some point as after a close look today they look like they are the same as any other N/A.

Am i right in thinking the ones im getting are gas filled not oil filled?

Thanks guys

i could take a random guess at what words you could of described yourself earlier, but il get a big warning about use of foul language ;)

get her fixed up.. and iwould of put money on your car having N/A springs/shocks as it has always looked higher than any other SR

@ Gal - No it's always been lowered somewhat. It had the TTE springs on originally but obviously it looks like standard N/A shocks. Now it has Tein springs on the standard shocks but they are known for not being as low as they are stated. Im guessing the Glanza shocks will pull it down a little more though.

Also remember my car is stripped as well so it has no weight to lower it as well.

@ Idrees - Thanks Idrees. Im going to pull them off tomorrow.Im half looking forward to it and half not. Didn't really want to be edging into my holiday spending money but im going to get a slight improvement in my handling.

@ Starletraje - ;) i aimto please. My neck started hurting at dinner time and it's a little stiff now. Do you think i can claimon myself?

Sorry, it doesn't even have a roof :p. Looks like the occupants were cut out.

Well after visiting it today i am £60 lighter but i have gained the front drivers wishbone and both front KYB gas shocks with Tein springs. I also must add that the shocks and springs look brand new as well. Im not fitting all the bits until i get back from my holiday as im just too busy. I have also still not got the nut off the wheel and the wheel is just getting more and more damaged trying to get it off. Ah well i'll sort it when i get back.

silly billy, never keep your eyes off the road!!!!!!!!!!! This is what happens, my friend did that once for like a split second to change track on the headunit and i looked up only to find her car steering into a curb, she managed to pull away quick enough before the alloy touched the curb. I was shitting myself lol.

Thats not good news at all mate, especially after all the hard work you have put in with the conversion recently.

Oh well, crap happens and atleast it doesn't look too bad.

Hopefully you can get it sorted in time for JAE mate

What a BULB :p

Looks like the bottom arm took all the impact which they are designed for so you might have got away with just replacing that but you got a bit of a bargain there mate!!

Hope you get it sorted ASAP and watch out for the kurbs :p :P
