SooperD
Awesome, as for postage im probably not that far away from you seeing as your S.Wales too ... Maybe someone like yourself should buy up a load of decent 2nd hand stock mani's and port n polish em up then make a few quid and have their old mani in exchange to keep the cycle going .. Amjad
Jam it is the exhaust mani's you're porting & polishing right? Have you got any pics? Might get it done by you if that's cool
SooperD
Abercarn mate if you know where that is .. Cant say ive seen yours around either tbh.Would the gains from this only be noticable by being able to run higher boost or even on stock boost would there be a gain ? james@cjperformance
yeah i know where you are mate your just up past ystrad mynach, you will see a slight gain but as it is at the moment i wouldnt advise running above stock boost because of the restriction, many people have run a bar on perted manis without issue. ste91
Ste have you actually seen a jam manifold and a standard manifold in your hands and seen the differnce. I have and after you've ported the standard manifold the difference is minimal, by porting the standard mani you wont weaken it if you do it correctly, it will be the same strength as before and even better if you polish it up after. As this strengthen the manifold by removing imperfection in the cast, I recon theres more chance of the mani cracking before it ported on standard boost than after running 1bar. I've had my ported mani on for 6months running 1bar for most of the time and I've had no problems what so ever and alot of other people will tell you the same thing. Granted your not going to see the same gains as a zisco, wepr, race-tech or similar. But the price difference of porting a standard mani and getting a jam one, Imo Its not worth it but that my opinon and I wont change my mind. The difference is in the quality, a Jam manifold is cast which makes it strong, as compared to a tubular stainless or mild steel one.Of course the standard one is cast but you're removing material. You can't compare a ported standard manifold to the Jam manifold, it's not the same at all. You ARE weakening it by removing material. But then take into consideration the years of heat cycles the standard manifold has been through whereas the Jam ones are a lot newer. There's no argueing the fact that a ported standard manifold is a good mod on a budget and even if it breaks it's cheap enough to buy another, but it's the same old story with cheap tubular manifolds, by the time you've replaced it 3 times you might aswell just buy a good one in the first place and not ever have to worry about it.Also Jam have actually put R&D into their manifold, whereas a ported standard one 99% of the time will have just been "attacked with a grinding stone". james@cjperformance
Also Jam have actually put R&D into their manifold, whereas a ported standard one 99% of the time will have just been "attacked with a grinding stone".well most would use grinding stones i do not, i use carbide burrs then polish the runners using abrasive compound@amjad i havent got any pictures of previous ones i have done i will take some of the nex one i do and post some pics up for you. SooperD
Yea, ill see if 1 comes up cheap 2nd hand and pop over 1 day Jam if thats cool ? .. altho id not have a clue where to start when putting it on haha.. ive not even touched the engine on mine since ive had it. Dont want to take it apart then not be able to put it back again Well running 1 bar is the aim for now and being on my very limited budget this seems like a good step to take towards that
