streetmonkgt
hi all i would like to add a 4wd conversion to my ep82. can i add a ep95 4wd system to my car? can anyone help me, has anyone had this done? or is there a better one i can get.
SiCaln
the ep95 is a weak version of the 4x4 system, there is an ep8* model called the sport selection this has a more powerful system, but u would be better changing the sports seletion into agt 4x4 than vice versa
Nanglebadger
Jaystar was tellin me about this the other day...its a much better idea to turbo an ep85 than to try to convert an ep82 to 4wd unless your happy gettin out a large hammer and beatin the hell outta the transmission tunnel til its twice its original size. Ryan (ttestarlet) now owns a turbo'd ep85 and its awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!Phil.
streetmonkgt
i was ready to buy the carret and have the converion done. the mechanic was saying it would work no problem. ok looks like this project has to take a you turn to the 6 speed ep82. i hear it is easier to do. can you help me in the right direction. i know its the g6 gearbox that is used, but thats about it. ecksjay
caret model doesnt have the uprated drivetrain, so if you were to put a turbo engine in there you could never be sure that it wouldnt break pretty damn soon after the conversion was completed.putting that drivetrain onto an ep82/ep91 would be a non-starter, unless you have limitless funds (and lets face it, if you do, you wouldnt be driving a starlet). whitestarlet
The 6 speed is from a G6 Corolla (the round-lamped model)jus make sure its from the 1.3 corolla (4efe) and that box hould be fine. i think you need the cables as well thoughunless you have limitless funds (and lets face it, if you do, you wouldnt be driving a starlet).interesting point mate but not everyone that has a starlet is on a budget most people buy the cause they like them. paul w
If i had limitless funds i wouldn't have a starlet as a daily driver thats for sure!
NightSpirit
Well I've gone from a 450hp MR2 to an ep82 again...the 2 is still sitting on the drive as I type...I think the EP is a cracking little car and bags of fun. It's a budget track racer to me.Once I get bored of the EP (which I hope won't be too soon) I'll upgrade to a group n evo 5 or escort cossie...but if funds were limitless for a trackday tool, ultima gtr all the way.Good luck with the conversion to 4wd. it'd be easier to get a box and bits from a supra and go rwd dorikin stylee ;)
daniel_g
Dragged a thread back from the dead!Does anybody know if there is any truth in the 'sports selection' 4paw having a stronger drivetrain?
starletgt-shady
Hope it's true mine is a s version
daniel_g
Hope it's true mine is a s version Dont suppose you'll have any pics of the drivetrain? Edited July 16, 2015 by daniel_g
starletgt-shady
Sorry I don't. It says 4wd S on the back and the S is in red. Don't know what differences are.
daniel_g
Sorry I don't. It says 4wd S on the back and the S is in red. Don't know what differences are. There was an S and a Sport Selection. The Sport Selection was for the facelift in mid 1994.Over the base model they had these kinda things.Boot spoilerBlue Interior trimElectric mirrorsElectric windowsFront fogsGt style steering wheelProbably a few other bits and bobs too.Although i doubt there is any difference in the drivetrain between EP85s, might be wrong though would be nice to find out
