Taggy
I was told that even though the GT and Glanza use the same 4efte engine, the GT version of the engine had thicker rods, is this true? Also is there anyway to tell if an engine does indeed have the thicker rods or not, as i have bought an engine but its out of the car already and cant find out what car it came from, are there any markings to state what it is? Russleh
im not sure on how to tell if the engine is a gt one or a glanza one but yeh one does have thicker rods. quite a bit thicker aswell.
Stulet-GTT
Must be the GT as im always hearing about Glanza's Blowing up so the engines must be weaker...
Guest Enzo
ud have to take off the sump and have a look, that would be the only way to tell
bucketep91
GT rods may be thicker but theres never been any evidence that they are any stronger. Would be pretty stupid if toyota made a weaker engine in a newer model of the same car.
Sparky
Someone post the pictures of the differences, I'll see if I can find pics now, I have my engine in bits and would like to check.Actually I have a Glanza engine in bits aswell so I will take a rod out of there just to compare, wont be till next weekend now though. Guest Enzo
here are the difference between 90-94 4efte rods and 95-99 fte rodsthis leads me to wander, could late fte glanza rods be the same as your average 4efe rod????
Guest Enzo
while im here, there are loads of other little differences between the two engines, mostly to do with the weight of moving parts.il post up what i mean in a bit

daz gt turbz
on the plus side, glanza rods will make a smaller hole in the block if they decide to vacate the crank!
birdmandan
Haha yeah indeed that is true but damage is gonna be catastrophic nevertheless ;PDan.

turbo Grant
My gt engine with the silver timing cover has the thicker rods in. Made a right mess of the black top timing cover engine when that went. Left me with a hole front and back. The middle of the rod missing. The gudgen pin snapped off the piston. Found it in the sump with the top of the rod ;)
aidanep71
does this mean my 95 gt will have the match sticks too
turbo Grant
I've only seen the silver timing top cover engines in the early GT's, you do get the black cover engines in the later ones and they have match stick rods like the glanza.
aidanep71
the plastic timing belt cover is it
