Just a quick question as I can't find anything on it - the 1.4 VVT engine (4ZZ-FE) seems to replace the 1.3 4EFE in the bugeye Corolla from 2000 on, and runs at about 95bhp standard in the Rolla.

Has anyone tried dropping one into a Starlet? We rally our starlet and our class is up to 1400cc (so a 5EFE conversion isnt a runner) - so this conversion might be of interest, there are quite a few 2000-on Corolla 1.4s starting to appear in scrappers.

Just stick a FTE engine in it :)

Sometimes turbos are not the answer...sitting waiting on boost and then having a cloud of tyresmoke is not the quickest way of getting round a tight stage.

Also a turbo would lump us in with 2000cc classes and exclude us from some events.

4efe would be easier but they are cast iron blocks the 4zz is an ally engine so would help power to weight a bit, and drinking oil wont be a prob as its a rally car so id assume it would get regular services?

I would be concerned about clearance on the exhaust manifold as its on the back and the bulkhead isnt designed for it.

As for wiring stick a aftermarket ecu on it and save the hassle of the wiring :)
