ryan lang
its like a dark white smoke, and when i put a piece of white card infront of it, there was quite a bit of wet soot, and this continues to happen all day no matter how much i drive it, so it cant just be condensation on start ups, and it hasnt exactly been cold the last 2 dayscould it be the headgasket? if not what else could it be? ste91
How many miles on the engine? Valve stem seals? Although I'd have thought burning oil would give off more of a blue colour.
ryan lang
it seems to change color to be honest mate, just had a new headgasket put on it, and its up to about 100 since then, but overall its 115k on it. it smells like burning oil, but its way to thin to be oil so i think its a mix of bothsometimes its like a yellowy white, sometimes its pure white, i even had black smoke yesterday. GT Phayer
are you loosing water ?
ryan lang
havent checked the water, but theres alot of it coming out of the exhaust, definitely losing oil though
GT Phayer
did you have the head skimmed when the gasket was done ? also why was the head gasket changed ?
ryan lang
no, didnt get it skimmed. head gasket was only replaced due to testing a 4efte ported head etc, which was also burning oil.now we put the original head back on with another new headgasket

ryan lang
no loss of water mate :/ just a lot of white smoke, and black towards the top end of the rev range :/
Starlet__SR
You sure its just not all the crap blowing through? D
Asad
valve stem seals replaced? if not its them....mine does it the piece of shit what are your plugs like? let me guess nice n sooty n black??
ryan lang
no, my oil level is dropping too, need a compression test to see if its the rings :/ unsure if both heads will have had stem seal issues, because its my standard head back on there now :/ which had no problems before it came off :/yeah they were black, havent checked the new 1s :/
Asad
comp wont tell you anything 1) the oil ring is at the bottom, the comp ring is at the top and thats what you`ll be testing2) if its your valve stem seals there will be oil in the cylinder anyway which will impair your readings
ryan lang
yeah i suppose dude. getting annoying now though, because the engine was fine before we took the original head off, and its been shite ever since
Asad
im going to replace my valve stem seals soon without taking the head off, but yeah if you rev it nice n slowly it will be fine especially when cold....rag it and look thru your rear view youll see a cloud of smoke i did a comp test on mine 200 across all cylinders, plugs were black...the previous owner didnt drive the car as hard as i do thats why it wasnt apparent when i first got it + the crank seal was leaking so i had oil loss anyway if you want get some heavy weight oil from morrisons (asda dont have it) get 15w50 its really cheap apparently to tide you over check the oil every other time you drive and youll be grand till you can afford to fix it
GlanzaJim
i had loads smoke come out of mine and i found out it was piston ring, to try just lift out your dip stick and rev it, and if smoke blows out the tube its a ring
ryan lang
asad, it smokes constantly, on idle, and all through the rev rangeand cheers jamie, ill try that this afternoon
