What would you do? (possible 6 points)

Recommended Posts

Basicly I had an accident on tuesday, went into the back of someone at a junction because he hesitated and I was late for something, all I had was a cracked number plate and all he had was a tiny crack in his back bumper, however his car was a company car. So insurance will definatley be involved.....

Here's where Ive dropped myself right in it, had a letter through today saying my insurance policy was cancelled on the 20th July, the letter was dated the 23rd, I had a previous letter stating that my policy would be cancelled if I didn't pay my months bill (this was because of natwest fucking up and didn't reolised that they cancelled the DD) but on the first letter they didn't state a date on when or if the cancellation would take place, however I don't have proof of this letter, elephant also say they sent me emails, which I know for a fact I didn't get, didn't receive any phone calls either, and I can't access anything to do with documents anymore online because the policy is cancelled so I can't even complain about them.

But anyway, the crash happened during the period of me being uninsured, that I wasnt aware of I thought I was insured. I understand there's no leeway with police an driving uninsured, so I'm guessing it's 6 points and a fine? Which means back to a provisional for me because I'm in the first two years of driving?

Only thing at the moment is, the insurance company doesn't know about the crash yet because the company car that I crashed into hasn't phoned them, don't know whether to wait it out, or go to police station and be honest... What do you think?

Due to bank issue etc you may get away with less points/fine in court although i can see a newish driver with 3-5 points getting insured easily :/

But I'd wait it out and see if he reports it, he has to report it within a certain timescale but it may just be going through company ranks before getting reported.

Im a slight expert in these matters right now have had alot of hassle with points and the police lately between me and my mate who i share a flat with 1st off he got caught in my starlet while his insurance on his car had expired. They saw him with his belt off apparently had to chace him then he told them he was insured anyway he was done with the routine no insurance taking the car without consent all that jargon. Then was cited 2ce apparently both never came so he had 2 failed to appears so foned the PF to see what the score was and was told theres a warrant out for him which was then cancelled due to their incompetence. 2 days later at 8am 2 bobbys at the door trying to arrest him so they are told the story radio in to find the warrant is cancelled anyway after all of this he had a court appearance and got 6 points and £450 fine. I on the other had during this time was caught speeding doing apparently an average of 99mph over 1.5miles. Anyway mine was processed properly and dealt with far faster i plead guilty by letter and got 4 points and a £150 fine. Any way best thing you could do is wait it out. I assume at the time you exchanged all details but the police werent involved? It might be a little underhand and sneaky but if they werent then you could probably deny that it ever happened and get your policy up to date in the mean time lol.

Cheers mate! :) at least I know that it will probably end up being 6 points, I'm going to speak to a solicitor today to find out more information and what action I should take, and yes we did exchange information address etc, but the details he gave me were just the company's main details that you can find on their website! I can't even contact him direct or anything. Just so annoying :/

And as the car isn't insured I will have to declare it as sorn too -.- which is just hassle because I could technically be driving around if I was insured, but then if I did end up getting 6 points it will just be a waste of money, money I any afford to waste when my insurance is basicly £200 a month

If its anything like our comapany cars where i work, there all on lease so for something like that we wouldnt bother claiming because the insurance is mental high anyway because so meny people are on it so we would just send it back the the rental place and tell them to fix it. They do stuff like that because its in the contract any parking dents or backing into posts like one girl did hear insurance never got involved. Fingers crossed it will be like this

How any body can get a hold of someones details doesnt take a secret agent. Say i had damage on my car and didnt like someone and decided to blame it on them and claim them i could easily get their details n dream up an alleged story. If their is no evidence and he did not involve the police thats his own fault im afraid if theres no evidence their was no crime mate simple as that its his word against yours. As for him knowing where you work you just needto decide what u like better your driving license or a guilt free concience lol.

Agree with Stu there, ive been burned by being honest. Just leave it and plead ignorance! No proof, no story. However if it has been reported the police are obliged to follow it up and normally find that people under 25 (young drivers) normally incur a court appearance.

Yeah I would rather a guilty concience, and the guy was so nice I think he would understand like :p if it was his own car I wouldent, but as its a company car and his car as minimal damage too it then it's not that bad. However the biggest mistake I made was telling him to follow me into sainsburys to discuss it because it happened on the junction outside there, so there may be cameras on the location where we parked :(!!!!!! Argh!

Yeah 6 points and a fine or getting done for fraud good one.

also probably posting on a forum with what happened and your reg and locations etc isnt a very smart idea if your going to lie in court.

Also if you got the letter (but the only reason it didnt get paid was cause the bank messed up) why didnt you just call your insurance and make the payment by card.

all seems a bit fishy, but the fact of the matter was you drove without insurance. and that in my eyes is stupid
