Dan_Henderson
Ok lads so is it possible to bolt a turbo onto the 4efe without internal work and run low boost? What parts would I need and how muh would it cost?Or should I save for a glanza engine witch are getting rather pricey
morgey
Its been done, can make about 120-30hp theres a thread somewhere.Cant remember what was changed though
Amjad
I think you can do this but you'll need to do something about fueling
Addymk2
Inlet manifold/injectors/rail/fpr would be my assumption from a glanza. Aswell as the oil filter mounting so you have a feed and return for the turbo. And 100% some form of mapping. Thats a minimum that I would of thought of from the top of my head. EDIT: Also the manifold, turbo, downpipe, intercooler etc etc etc. Edited February 14, 2013 by Addymk2
Amjad
Not 100% on mapping, Chris Ireland bolted an FTE setup to a 5e NA. Using a wideband and RRFPR I think he said it's fuelling okay so far
AdamB
Jay over on TGTT done this to a JDM 100ps 4E. He swapped over a few bits and bolted on the ct9, its still going strong now and pulls very well so I'm led to believe. Has been done nearly 2 years I think. He just ran the turbo ecu and injectors. Dan_Henderson
How much are glanza engines going for at the minute, are the ones on eBay overpriced at £1,000+?
Amjad
Should be around £400-
palmer_starlet
Im in the same boat man think im just going to turbo the 4efe and se how it goes.
Dan_Henderson
If only I could find one for that price with everything I need, I might just start collecting parts for a 4efe turbo build
daniel_g
I thought this would happen with the shortage of decent FTEs around. Are you guys gonna literally just bolt on whatever is needed or strip the 4E down and rebuild with FTE rods, pistons, HG, valve springs etc ?
palmer_starlet
yer man i am bit by bit. And dan i dont think im going to strip down the efe im just going to run a thicker head gasket and then e manage and run a td04 at low boost.
Dan_Henderson
I don't plan on striping down the engine just bolting all the bits on get it sent off for a map and see how long it lasts lol
AdamB
Personally I prefer a higher compression engine than a low one.
Dan_Henderson
I just want boost once I've got its running we'll go from there
Addymk2
Higher compression will spool the turbo faster and generate more power, however chances of Det are higher. I think I covered 90% of the parts your going to need to be honest.
loguey
This is the plan for my current 4e as the rings are gone on it, my only questions are, do the fte rods fit straight to the fe crank, I've heard theyre the same but would like some confirmation and whats the difference between the fe and fte head? funny onion
Sam and a lad from our way turbo'd a 4efe and after swapping the relevant bits like oil filter housing, sump, etc it ran fine at reasonably low boost but the lad ran it out of oil :/
Addymk2
Sam and a lad from our way turbo'd a 4efe and after swapping the relevant bits like oil filter housing, sump, etc it ran fine at reasonably low boost but the lad ran it out of oil :/LOL whoopsie!
Dan_Henderson
Ok lads so could I not bolt on a ct9 an run glanza ecu and loom?
Amjad
Surey there would be different sensors that work with the loom and therefore it wouldn't work?
JTStarlet92
I'm planning to do this with a 5efe, putting the turbo internals, valve springs etc from an old fte and running emb with either td04 or some sort of Garrett turbo
