Headgasket? Sorted :)

Recommended Posts

I was in a mates car starlet gt!

Would a headgasket need replacing if the car overheats into red and we saw steam from the bay then looked at the gauge for a minute then park up to cool it down?

Whilst cooling down noticed some water a little bubble of water bubbling at the back of the head near the inlet??? Did it come out if the head

We let it cool down then drove it again and repeated this until he got it home kept stopping!

I noticed the fan was not kicking in that's the cause! Will wire it to a switch for him tomorrow!

****Any suggestions on what to look out for and any damage done? Or do?****

No smoke from car and it starts and drives but overheats

What a shit day he dropped me off and was doing me a favour :(

I feel bad for him now fuk sake

Defo sounds like headgasket failure. The head could now be cooked and warped beyond repair, will require sending off to a machine shop for investigation and at least a skim.

Thats why i have my fan wired to a constant 12V on ignition.

Do you recon we should start it tomorrow with the fan running on a switch

And check the thermostat incase it is closed shut?

Or is it too late?

If u were driving then the fan wasnt the problem. If you were in traffic then yes it would have been.

Id be checking/flushing coolant system, thermostat.

Replacing water pump as well maybe.

But yeah 99% will want to get the head off for skimming or replacing. (Perfect opportunity to do the water pump)

If coolant is pishing out of the head its too late man.

Id just strip it down and see whats what.

Parts id replace,

Thermostat

Coolant

Head bolts

Head gasket

Stem seals, may aswell since the head is off.

And water pump, ^^ as said

And get the head skimmed.

My headgasket went last week although showed different symptoms to yours. My coolant reservoir was beyond full and pissing out all over the engine bay. Rather than risk making things worse, you should get the head off and skimmed etc. From what i've read too, and the route i'm taking, is to replace it with an Athena metal gasket instead of OEM, plus new head bolts etc.

K seal isnt worth a FUCK!! Used it in my VXR before I traded it in but never done sweet FA had to sit at a petrol station n let it cool down before going to the Arnold Shark for them to inspect it. Safe to say their diddy mechanics never noticed.

Id just whip the head off its a doddle on these anyway then get a known good straight edge and check the bottom of the head if its flush you should be fine and just get it skimmed but defo a head off job dont try n quick fix it youll just make it worse.
