garrygt
Been thinking about starting a build thread for a while now but never got round to it. I bought my first ep82 in march 2012 and had it on the road 2 months before it ran out of mot. Will add some pictures tomorrow off my old phone. Had the intention of putting it back on the road after the repairs were done for a new mot, that was a year ago now and i dont even have the same car i started with. Collected some awsome parts for my build so far, will upload pics and details tomorrow Finally got some pics uploaded. That's the day after I got her home, picked it up from Manchester after going down from Inverness on a megabus and drove it back the same day. Needless to say the guy I bought it from was less than honest about the car, some of the things I should have noticed myself but it was my first starlet and didn't know what to look for.The head was cracked on the 4th exhaust port, never made a noise when it was warm so didn't realise when I got the car. The front end was also in a mangled state behind the bumper.I drove the car as I bought it for 2 months then it ran out of mot. Took it off the road to get it ready fr its mot and this is where it all started. There's a pic of it on its last day on the road. Polished and lookin ok from a distance haha. That gsi belonged to my friend and has a 2.5 v6 under the bonnet.Engine out, ready to be stripped down. Done it all myself, was surprised how easy it was to come apart. Very good to work on these engines. I dropped the block off to be bored out to 75mm with a fresh face on top of the block and also to get it honed. Crank was in good condition so it just needed a polish up.After about 4 months of waitin I went to pick my block and crank up, only to notice that it had only been honed, crank hadn't been touched and it hadnt been bored either. However my engine is now at one of the most trusted places in Scotland, agra engineering in dundee, and its Being built as we speak, and will be ready half way through June. Spec is as followsWossner 75 pistonsScat conrodsFull acl bearing setArp head boltsArp conrod boltsArp main studsGenuine toyota oil pumpFull toyota gasket setNew water pumpOnly pic I have got of the engine parts, will upload some pics of the bottom end when I pick it up. Managed to get my hands on some nice bits aswell, such as my wilwoodsPayed £350 for the calipers with custom brackets, guy only sold them as the wilwood writing is slightly differant. Also got a greddy trust oil cooler and filter relocation, tmd td series external watergate ram horn mani with down pipe. It came with a vf24 but I sold that as I want a race tech hybrid td04 also have a sard rrfpr and speedvision water and oil lines. After a lot of thought I decided to bite the bullet and buy a decent clutch, bought a Orc 309 from mark at Cmb autos. Only covered 200 miles and is currently at Agra with the flywheel being balanced my bottom end. Wasn't wantin to buy a brand new clutch for it to eat itself in no time. Also I had the chance of a Apexi power FC with hand commander so I took it straight away, the guy I bought it from also had a mint gt shell, so decided to strip mine and buy his one instead. It came with a custom centre console, triple gauge pillar pod, uprated fuel pump, indiglo dials and a momo wheel. Swapping the wheel for a omp one though as I don't like it.So now my first gt was totally stripped, I got a pm from mel85 with a strange request. He wanted the whole boot floor and back end off my car, so we agreed a price and I was let loose with a grinder and a cutting disc.Needless to say the rest of the car is now in the scrapyard in the sky. The axel and brakes were removed, was a completely bare shell when it was done. So here is the new shell that's taken its placeIt's in a bit of a mess at the moment as my work is so dusty, the last one is her wrapped up in bed being neglected haha.I've got a full poly bush set ready, and every single thing from the wishbones to axel to underneath is gettin cleaned and or painted. Here's my wishbones, came out well in red I think. Just needing a anti lift kit then they will be put on.Anyway that's all for now. Doing this all on a iPhone ain't easy. Next stage is back axel off and the refurbed one on with the poly bushes and new wheel bearings discs and pads etc. will get some pics up as soon as its done. Bought myself a zisco inlet to add to my collection, the car has beem fully undersealed with the axle painted and polybushed. No pics as yet though but will try and get some up over the weekend. Finally picking up my bottom end at the start of september, so will be cracking on with getting it fitted as soon as i can. There is not one thing left unturned on this car, will be an absolute minter when its done. I've also got a mk3 bumper with a livesports lip to go on, along with a toms grill. Im going to be using the square lamps for this as i think it looks so much meaner. In the pipeline is a 2.5inch downpipe from zisco as my current one is only 2 inches, and a full 2.75 exhaust from, again from the lads in malta. Really cant wait to drive her, will be over 2 years since i have driven one of these when i get it on the road, fingers crossed for spring 2014. Can see alot of late nights and alot of pennies being spent over these comin months. What else are winter months for?? Managed to find the time to upload some pictures of my axle refurb. Its now looks like brand new, had it shot blasted to insure there was zero rust. Then hit it with 3 coats of zinc primer, stuff welders use to stop new welds oxidsing. Then there was 4 coats of satin black. Looks like it has just been made anyway, some pics, the first one is what it looked like before i started. http://i1303.photobucket.com/albums/ag146/garrygt/20130822_163809_zpsb9eddd63.jpg That was after the 3 coats of zinc primer, next was the coats of satin black. I dont have any pics of it just after it was painted, only pics of it after the whole thing was completed. Brand new rear discs and wheel bearings, braided brake lines and powerflex polybushes. Quite a transformation if i say so myself. Very happy with the finished product. Dont have any photos fitted yet but will get some tomorrow. I still need to underseal the drivers rear arch so it will get some once i have that done. Also i will be finally picking up my bottom end next week, got the pennies sitting after alot of saving, cant wait to get it back. Im also going to have some work done to my head before i build the engine up. A light port and polish etc then need to get arp headbolts as everything else is arp. Headgasket wise im planning a 0.6mm as i want a responsive engine, with the rest of the spec i have i think it should make for a lively car After the head is done, a quaiffe gearbox will be finding its way to the car, then i can get it all fitted. Getting excited now, knowing im getting my engine back has given me the boot up the arse i needed to start gettin her ready. As im wanting a quick spooling and responsive set up, i decided to go for a zisco inlet. Probably not going to make that much of a differance with the boost i will be running but every little helps, and still looks cool in the bay none the less. I chose for the vac lines to be at the back of the intake, as i want my bay to be and neat and tidy as i can get it. The battery will be going in the boot, also toying with the idea of removing the power steering. Would like peoples opinions on this please, does it give better feel etc? What like is it driving aroung town with no PAS? Anyway, heres some pics of the inlet. Will post more tomorrow once i get a bit more done to the car. Next in the pipeline once I've got my engine back is a quaiffe lsd box from turbo loon. That will be at the end if next month once i get payed. Also i will be getting a set of recaro sr3s on recaro rails. They have 30 years of recaro in japan stitched into the back of them which I've never seen before. Will keep you posted with updates. Pics will be uploaded of my engine on tuesday UPDATE So I finally payed the massive bill to get my bottom end back. After dropping my engine off in a thousand bits and having it back looking brand new, made the wait well worth it. Started puttin on the ancilleries etc, never got too much done though as I'm still waiting on my head to come back the machine shop. I've started to refurb my alternator, by plugging all the wholes with tissue. Bit of a bastard but it will look a lot fresher. Still need to order a new knock sensor, and a few other bits and pieces. But I will get my head and zisco inlet and everything on once in ordered my 0.6mm head gasket and arp headbolts. Should see lots of progress this next few weeks! Keep your eye on this thread ;) anyway, pics of my bottom end,That's all for now folks. Will update tomorrow after I get a few things done UPDATE AT LONG LAST.So I've managed to get my engine built happy days! Got the head back from the machine shop then stuck it straight on with arp headbolts and a 1.2mm headgasket. Still got a few little things to buy for it, lightweight pullys, a few seals and a full ignition overhaul. Will let the pictures do the talking, ignore the shitty rocker cover, just a temp till i get a race spec one made.so thats that done. Been year and a half since there has been a whole engine even near the car haha. So im fairly pleased. Once I've got my hoses etc i will get another couple photos up, gonna try get hold of a clear cam cover. Now for one of the best mods in my eyes. I got my name down for the group buy of meisterR coilovers, so i payed the deposit and the full balance, then these puppies turned up at my door. To say i was smiling was an under statement. Here is one next to my old suspension,And here they are in the box I had time to fit the two rear ones as i was so excited to see what it would look like. Very pleased with the drop and the quality of these is unreal.big improvement over the lowering springs, wheel sits right in the arch now and is the perfect height for me. Thats them on there lowest setting aswell. Now for the final part of this update. I seen on facebook wepr were doing a 25% off deal on all of there products, and the thought crossed my mind of getting a new turbo kit. I've always admired wepr's work, but i didnt think i would afford it. So i stuck my old turbo kit up for sale with the hope of selling it before the end of october. Thankfully it sold so i put in my order to sacha, he just send me a work in progress pic but im over the moon with how it looks so far.....Top mount td04 kit in mild steel, also having a tial v band wastegate set up but this hasnt been welded on yet. Cant wait to see the finished product. One last pic before i finish. Will update hopefully sooner next time as I've a few things planned for the next few weeks.update 1/12/13After being skint for the past month i couldnt wait to finally buy some new bits for my car. So got payed and straight away blew heaps of money again. Beginning to realise im not that far off from gettin her finshed.First of the items that i bought was a cusco 2 way lsd in a glanza box i believe. Im planning on rebuilding a gt gearbox at some point anyway, as this one has a differant crown wheel out of a another gearbox so it has a slight whine when off the throttle. I've been told it should quieten down anyway. The diff has also been fully rebuilt aswell so happy days. Pic was taken as soon as i got it home, it will be getting cleaned and painted to tidy it up.so with that bought i was happy enough, the guy i bought it from also chucked in 2 tubs of proper lsd oil from kaaz. He also chucked in this beauty absolutly delighted with the deal i got, plus the vanity tray is awsome. Also got my hands on a brand new set of magnecore leads. Got a brand new rotor arm and dizzy cap aswell as a much nicer steering wheel. Possibly be buying a toms spoiler next week aswell to go on a frp bootlid. Will update tomorrow once I've tidied up the gearbox.UPDATE 15/12/13so i finally managed to get time to clean up my gearbox. Fully degreased and scrubbed until it was sparkling. Hopefully this will give you an idea of how clean i want the car to be. Before; And after much scrubbing, wasnt finished just yet you get the idea;once that was done i decided to paint it, seems a shame to paint it but there is no way it would stay like that. Im getting a gt box rebuilt so might polish that then lacquer it. These photos are after 1 coat as i ran out of paint So there it is, will upload more pictures once its totally finished. After looking at the rear end of the car for a good while, i decided it needed a little something. I was going to get a livesports spoiler but the oppertunity came up to get a toms one so i snapped it up. Needs a bit of work but i got it for nothing and its going on a frp boot anyway. Looks awsome though, gives the back end the lift it needed.LOL at the powered by fairydust sticker. Its not staying dont worry.so thats about it for now, will upload more once I've finished working on the car tomorrow. I've got a zisco 6 point rear brace on the way, same as the one in this picI've got a pair of hi spec brake discs with bells on the way, 288mm race grooved. Could be after chistmas before they arrive though hate waiting. Hopefully arriving on monday aswell is a full set of purple roose motorsport hoses with clips, pics when they arrive.Oh yeah my turbo kit arrived from sacha at wepr. All i can say is his work is flawless. Best out there by far. Only pic i have is the one where i placed the mani on the head to see what it looked like.Update 19/12/13Got my front and rear whiteline anti roll bars in the post the other day, gonna crack on and get them fitted over the weekend so will have pics when i do. Also received my zisco 6 point brace, attempted to fit it last night and ended up leaving it as i was getting very stressed out haha! Heres where i got to on the trial fit.... garrygt
Got the axel off its already pretty well undersealed so i think im just going to do the arches again and patch up underneath. Holy shit axel bolts are tight to come off aswell! Pics to follow. Also after a near side rear caliper as i discovered the seals knackered so if you have one let me know. Also decided to remove my rear wiper....will probably regret it but it looks better anyway
