coxycox
Sorry to start another thread guys as im sure this has been asked before but im just struggling to find it! Can anyone shed some light..
WallaceGlanza
The lsd is external to the box on the drivers side so it's pretty obvious, it should also come with the shorter driveshaft on that side.
coxycox
Cheers mate! Do you have a picture for an example? Im going to buy one on sunday i just need to be 100% its an LSD
RobSR
Just make sure the shafts are both basically the same length, and you have the rear gearbox mount also. i dont have a pic but im sure someone will post one up.
coxycox
Alright cheers guys! So the shafts will be different length.. and the diff is mounted on the outside of the gearbox.. anything else to look out for?
morgey
Look in the wiki section on the top bar mate theres a thread describing it with pictures
RobSR
Alright cheers guys! So the shafts will be different length.. and the diff is mounted on the outside of the gearbox.. anything else to look out for? No standard shafts are massively different lengths, the OEM LSD gearbox shafts are nearly exactly the same length both sides.
coxycox
Thanks for that guys! Ive been and picked it up today and it all checks out. What gearbox oil is best to use? Obviously it is a standard LSD box i have now. Does anyone have a link to a good website for some? Also is it a measured quantity or just fill up untill it comes out? RobSR
Get onto opie oils and get something reasonably good. Theres a level bolt on the side, take that off, take the fill bolt off the top, fill untill it drips out the side. Put both bolts back in. Easy stuff.
morgey
As above Opie Oils, redline, millers, etcI dont believe the OEM LSD requires LSD oil just normal stuff
coxycox
Cheers guys! What grade is best to use? Or shall I just ask opie oils on here?
Banbury Glanza
Might be wrong here but I was told to use LSD oil in my OEM LSD
RobSR
I was also under the impression you just used normal stuff. Think 75-90 is the norm off the top of my head.
coxycox
So its looking like I should just some good quality 75w90.. I want to give the gearbox a good clean before I put it on the car. Is it going to be ok to jetwash it?
RobSR
Id get a decent brush / wire brush and give it a good scrub with an engine bay degreaser.

coxycox
Cheers mate, it all checks out to be a lsd box so I didn't get ripped off lol. I just cant wait to start the conversion now. Who is best to speak to about doing an auto to manual conversion?
RobSR
how mechanically competent are you? if youve got the time its not technically too hard to do!
coxycox
I work on motorbikes for a living so cars are not too bad. Anything in particular to watch out for? The main thing im worried about is mounting the pedals.. are all the bolt holes going to be there for the clutch?
