EPnick22 Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Have seen a few stories of people snapping these when theyre fresh out the box. what really is the difference between the OE bolts and arp's? the tensile strength? what power are the OE bolts rated to? Quote
Ryan_EP82 GT Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 I used new oem bolts rebuilding my engine because I've heard a few bad reports about ARP's, I'm not running mega boost tho! Quote
Fizturbo Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Have seen a few stories of people snapping these when theyre fresh out the box. what really is the difference between the OE bolts and arp's? the tensile strength? what power are the OE bolts rated to? Runnin a forge engine built by Tunning Developments on OE bolts and set by them at safe 1.4 bar,has done roughly over 10000 miles and no issues, the only reason am on OE bolts cause at the time arp bolts weren't available on market. DevonGT Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 OE bolts are pretty good, ok for close to 25psi. Quote
russ78 Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 My hang up with oe bolts is torque differences oe bolts are torqued to 44nm and arp are torqued to 60lbs ft such a huge difference between setting's how can oe bolts be as effective as arp ? Quote
H_D Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 I wouldnt run anything more than 1.4 bar on stock bolts. they will stretch and your head will lift. Quote
EPnick22 Posted November 29, 2013 Author Posted November 29, 2013 so if they snap how can they handle big boost? just seems a bit weird also is there a strength difference between the OE bolts and the OE spec bolts made by Payen? Idrees sells them, I bought some for my rebuild couple months ago, glad I did now cause they only cost £30 odd lol Quote
turbo Grant Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Incorrect institution is usually why they snap. People not libeling up the right parts and cleaning the bolt holes out Quote
00joeindastarb0 Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Compression ratio plays a part as people running high 7s have pushed 1.7-1.8 without issue but that's really on the threshold. Quote
Chief Quimby Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 I am running 2,3bar on my 5efte with stock head bolts. Havent had any problems Quote
russ78 Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 (edited) 3 Bar !!! what sorta turbo are you running at those kinda boost levels ? Edited December 1, 2013 by russ78 Quote
Chief Quimby Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Me ?, i am running 2,3 bar on a GT3071 Quote
AdamB Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I would look at cleaning the threads up and using a proper tap to jack up the threaded hole. Quote
