NightSpirit
Thought I'd share with you the journey in the dragstar at the weekend, I was driving up to a friends to do the engine swap (I simply don't have the time to do it myself right now) and it's the first time I've been on a journey in the car, in daylight...on my own...so I got chance to see what it could do.First point to make, the cars ability to cover vast distances is only eclipsed by its appetite for drinking V-Max. At an average speed of 95mph it went through 40 quid in 154 miles. gulp. Now onto the performance of the beast...As I was joining the motorway (M25) J9 heading north, I had a Mini Cooper S (for shite or slow...can't decide) up my chuff, giving it all 'ssshhhhwwwwww' from the supercharger. So we got on the slip road, I floored it in 3rd, boost kicked in, straight to the fast lane at over 110mph, goodbye Mini.Second car was more impressive though...a very tidy R reg BMW M3 (E36) in Techno Violet came past me, oldish chap driving with son in passenger seat playing on DS. I pulled out to get round traffic and just stayed behind him...at a distance, I'm not a prat. The road opened up, I was in a hurry to get where I was going so at about 95mph, he pulled over to the middle lane, looking across at me bemused as I went past, you could see he was thinking 'what's going on here then?'. He pulled out behind me and followed me at a steady pace, we came off the M25 onto the M40 and we decided to show me what 'M power' was all aboout and nailed it. I duly followed him and stayed a safe distance (4-5 cars) from his bumper. Each time the road opened up, he'd floor it and I just sat there at the same distance from him. So he pulled over again with both lanes clear, as I pulled along side, again at 90+ he floored it to see what the EP had...I just pulled away from him and looking down at the GPS that was reading 135mph, the speedo was telling me I was doing left leg mph (pointing vertically down) and there was still plenty revs to go in top. I thought I'd slow down a little. Pulled into the slow lane and as he went past, got a nice big wave. I then hobbled to the nearest petrol station to fill up again with the good stuff. NightSpirit
It's more thirsty than the jag...and even worse than the MR2 was o_0Still, it's a LOT more fun The look on the M3 driver's face as a 17 year old beat up hatchback went past him was priceless... Liam_D
Well done for teaching the BMW driver a lesson, most of them think they own the road.
Glanza Al
Talking of BMWs, last night took the old man to the local garage to pick up the GTO, had a new fuel pump to sort out its cough. I followed him in my clio (god i wished i was in the Glanza) while he "tested it". Just so happens a '57 reg 3 series of some description undertook me then crossed in front and overtook the old man. How, very dare he. Saw a little puff of smoke and then there was a loud "BBBBBBBRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOPPPPPPPPPPPP------TISSSHHHH" and the GTO was gone. Nuff said.Alex.

Guest Enzo
how much did the drag ep cost before all the importing fees are added on?do you know roughly how much power you have the now?if it was techno voilet would that make it the 321bhp one.
Nanglebadger
hahah i enjoyed them stories chaps thanks!Phil.
ecksjay
get a real car you grandad.stick that engine in a piece of shit ep, sell the rest, then spend the money you spend on that (what, 3k+) on something decent like an sr20det or a 2jz and THEN see what happens. 160+ off the clock etc.An e36 has nothing on even a stage 1 sr20det - whereas it takes megabucks to get that performance out of an sr20det (in which case the 4e will be doing similar mpg as the sr20 to get similar bhp).Get it in the 'drag' car (fwd drag cars are a failure to begin with anyway - ask any decent drag professional, which i have, a very good mate has been drag racing for years, his old man has been regularly competing in 1000bhp drag series, pro-stock etc) and then see what happens. you can have fun in anything - it just depends what you're comparing it against
NightSpirit
how much did the drag ep cost before all the importing fees are added on?do you know roughly how much power you have the now?if it was techno voilet would that make it the 321bhp one. That's a secret...but it was pretty cheap. I have no idea what power it's running, hoping to get it dynoed and mapped soon enough. And if you're referring to the evo M3, I'm not sure! there was little to tell the difference between non and evo M3s.Ecks, it was a drag car in Japan, but here it's a track beast which is more fun...not into drag strips....boring. But SR20DET?? that engine sucks more ringpiece than Michael Barrymore. If I wanted to make the EP stupid special, I'd just midmount a 3S-GTE and do a proper job
ecksjay
oh my word, drunk posting pwnz....also, 3s-gte is horse gash, hence why there are far more high power sr's running about than 3s' (the sr is actually a better unit than the rb25, puts out more torque at the same bhp figures and such).also, i agree with the drag comment, although, there is definately 'something' about it. my friend is into his drag in a big way (his father used to be a drag champion) so its in his blood, it really gets you going, and some people live for it - more so than track work. its very much a personal preference really, whichever gets your blood pumping (drag is overall more exciting when you're actually sat on the line).that sr will soon be doing the rounds at pod etc (500bhp+, stock sr internals) although i think its gonna have to be shakeys for practices, its a far nicer place.also give me that seat you festering lesbian. NightSpirit
Been at the booze again grandson? shocking....tsk I love the 3S GTE engine (coming from an MR2 Turbo as my last monster project) it's not shit you dwarf fisting sausage jockey...how very dare you. Lots of the tuner cars in Japan used to use the legendary 3S lump. I'd never go Nissan...or should I say Datsun. I've sold the seat too, I think. People keep saying they want it, but I can't actually post it or meet anyone with it as I don't have the time so they disappear. Come over and buy it.
SiCaln
yea if the 3s-gte is good enough for Top Secret's Supra it cant be all bad
NightSpirit
Exactly Any engine built by Yamaha is going to be pretty damn special...
Mikey Jay
The 3s-gte was built by Yamaha?Thought it was just the 4age that Yamaha got involved with
NightSpirit
Yup indeedy...If you look at the cam belt guard on the 3S-GTE, right there is a nice sticker with 'Yamaha' on it
Mikey Jay
Don't have one to hand to take a look at, so wouldn't know
