Calm down people....

Jap fuel is a higher ron yes, at the end of the day engines perform best when using fuel with the octane rating they were designed for...but a stock EP82/EP91 won't be able to take advantage of the higher octane benefits really...so running a stock EP on pump gas (95 ron) is fine. I ran my EP82 a few years back on that, no problems, we've run the glanza V on 95 ron for over a year and no problems.

A short lesson in fuel and research octane numbers (ron) courtesy of me B))

so who is ron? ron is a measurement of how resistant gasoline is to premature detonation (the dreaded knock). So using a fuel with a higher ron lets an engine run at a higher compression ration without experiencing knock. And as we all know, compression is related to power.

So in short, a stock EP will not need over 95 ron imo...but, let's say you have an aftermarket turbo, more fuel going in and a programmable ECU, you can get your car mapped on 98+ ron fuel to take advantage of the extra resistance to det that fuel has (more fuel in, more compression, more power). That's also why most track/race or big power cars have a map setup for C16 or similar race fuel that's over 110ron...as an example my friends car, made 550hp on C16 race fuel and 400hp on 98ron fuel...but at 60 quid + for 20 litres, it's not a daily driver thing :p

The end

lol everyone ignores my comment...B)

YOU DON'T NEED V-POWER OR ANYTHING OVER 95 RON ON A STOCK EP82/91

B)

I didn't ignore it :p i actually read it, so what actually happens to your car if 95ron is put in, i heard from some people that the car doesnt really take it well, my car is near enough stock, but is it risk to try?

good lad....save yourself some cash. I have a friend who works for Shell Oil, even he admits that the high octane fuels are pretty useless unless a car is modified.

I think it's a placebo effect, put in place by petrol companies...'use our fuel, your car will be faster'.

Anyone see the fifth gear fuel test video done at thor motorsport? only a tuned Impreza made any gains on BP ultimate B)

Shelly,

Honestly...I run the Glanza every single day on the cheapest fuel there is...like tesco 95 ron regular unleaded. If you wear a pair of det cans, there's very little knock going on even under full load. So I say, you're safe to use it. Only use the good stuff if you're running higher boost etc as above...just hate to see people waste money B)
