Urgent quick one

My radiator overheated on sunday due to a crack, I had to drive home with it nearly off the temp scale and stop often to let it cool down. Ive since bought and fitted a new radiator and new coolant and still it overheats? any idea as to why

Headgasket possibly, driving it hot would not have helped

Are you 100% sure youve bleed the system properly?

i got all the coolant out I could. It just continuely overheats and literally nothing stops it. Having the fan on seems to do jack all and no amount of airflow helps

Jack the front of the car up.

Heaters on hot

Rad cap off.

Fill coolant system

Start car with cap off.

Get up to temp topping up with coolant all the time. (It will splash everywhere)

Put the cap on and let the fan cut in and out.

Turn it off, fill header tank

Let it cool down for a few hours or over night

Check coolant levels and top up if required

Try it again and see if thats solved it.

the fan doesnt seem to engage at all? not volunterily anyway

try driving uphill/downhill if all else fails and you think it's not bled properly, i've had a huge airlock before and that's solved it, you will hear it glugging away when the air tries to reach the highest point, pull over and let the air out and top up

Why hasn't anyone said thermostat yet.... I bet the thermostat seal is fucked.

it looks to be an actual blockage, put coolant in the top hose and it didnt come out the bottom at all, then turned the car on and still didnt come out? was only for a couple of seconds

Bleed it.

Change stat.

Check pumps working.

Check systems not over pressurising

Check for headgasket with dye test

Bleeding the system, must of done 8-9 times now and still when on boost the temperature rises. Any ideas?

Just remove the thermostat And try it like that will let you no what's going on. Its only 2 bolts and 5min job

I was going to say the above but deleted what I was typing for some reason. I cut the centre out of an old stat and bolted it back up with the seal in place. Worked a treat.
