Idrees
Please do NOT powder coat the rocker cover, have it painted.
fiddlersport
why not iddy ?
Whitenoize
Would also like to know why not ? I've had two done in the past was a perfect finish and still looks like new
_shaun_
A lot of people have had engine failures after getting there cover powder coated. If your getting it done you really want to drill off the baffle and have totaly cleaned behind to make sure its 100% free or any forgein objects
Rob H@RCH Engineering
/\/\/\ This! theres nothing wrong with having them powder coated but make sure there 100% clean and sand free before refitting! I dropped this bollock before many years ago and spun a shell, I wont do it again! but I would still have stuff powder coated!
Whitenoize
Ah ryt thought ther was maybe some other reason yeah obviousley you gotta make sure it's clean inside but wouldn't say that's a good reason not to get it done
Idrees
I'm only saying it due to the amount of failures I've hard, I would just play it safe and have it painted but that's just me.
fiddlersport
thanks for the advice, did a evo cam cover recently and removed the baffle, cleaned it out, then re-tapped, loctite, job done
Turbo Goose
I had to drill off the baffle and there was loads of shot in there left from the shot blast! You have to have it welded back on mind, I wouldnt trust tapping out the holes and putting bolts on, can you imagine if one came loose
5e colin
^^^ cant pop rivets be used
Phil
I was blasting mine though not powder coating but went down the road of loctite and what not. have had it off since and still tight and tidy. Phil
Turbo Goose
Colin, i drilled out the original rivets. Then drilled a hole and tapped a couple but due to the nature of the alloy is tapped crap and bolts were loose on the threads. Could have tried riveting but theres nothing for the rivet to pull up to, like when you rivet a plate for example, would only be held by the force of the rivet against the sides of the drilled hole.just did a spot of weld in each hole
5e colin
ha ok thanks just asking becouse i have to refit mine on 1 of my covers after the an10 fittings where welded on
Rob H@RCH Engineering
I drilled and tapped mine and it tapped out perfect been like it 30,000+ miles now no problems, You can tap anything with good results if you do it properly and use the correct lube with a good quality tap. Turbo Goose
Taps we got at work are top notch, the bolts would hold and would do with a bit of locktite but i just didnt feel safe with bolts up there upside down with all that oil thats all. Would make me uneasy lol Edited December 1, 2014 by Turbo Goose
