Anddddd im back...

After telling myself i wouldnt be back (At least for a LONG Time), And laughing at everybody else bouncing back and buying starlets again im now in the same boat :D

First bought a little baby blue N/A, (Small project thread) And after slapping some mods on got the bug again and bought this thing from Manchester as a rolling shell.

Got it for a decent price and its a very clean example, engine bay, boot floor and all the usual bits like sills etc are lovely and clean, And with a bit of time cleaning it up im sure it will look amazing!

Car had a bottom end failure after what i was told is a relatively recent engine rebuild.

Got cracking straight on and stripped the sump off, And found number 1 Rod had literally just span its bearing. Light damage to the crank so i had 3 options.

  1. Buy a set of shells, Give the current engine a quick rebuild and hope for the best,
  2. Buy a high mileage thrashed 4EFTE And pray its a good one.
  3. Or buy a lovely low mileage 2000 Corolla 4EFE that i had seen running, complete with knock sensor etc like EFTEs and swap ancillaries, head, etc etc.

Obviously i picked option 3...

So here we go, Few photos of the build up, Sadly missed a fair few as i only had 1 day to do it! (Worked out about 11 hours work start to finish)

Started up first time (Albeit on an N/A Manifold) And runs perfect apart from high idle...

Need to find a turbo setup, and decide what im going for on this one! TF035 On a WEPR Mani mabye... Response machine.

Current spec list is here anyway.

1994 GT Turbo

  • Stripped rear
  • Sabelt drivers harness
  • Some JDM Turbo timer
  • Razo gearknob
  • Cusco rear strut brace
  • ZEP C Pillar bar
  • PI springs on Gas shocks
  • Full Japspeed?? exhaust
  • Low mileage 4EFE With 4EFTE Rebuilt head, Athena 1.4mm headgasket, Timing belt kit, Bolts etc and EFTE Bits swapped over.
  • Twin core alloy rad with fan and shroud
  • Blue radiator hoses

Thats it for now until i find a turbo kit, But i will also add i have a set of SCAT 4e rods on the way to me, And i also found my spare 5E Block in the shed, So things could get interesting

Few little photos of it after a quick sponge over, N/S/R Camber is off as the bloody wheel was finger tight when i had a look!

Haha yes yes yes keep them update's coming Toff :D

Of course i will!

Welcome back and good luck with the build, they are addictive :)

John

Thanks John and yeah they definitely are!

Yes toff. Welcome back mate.

You should know by now you can't get away that easily.

Interesting engine idea. Looking forward to seeing what happens here :)

Thanks Matt and i know mate it was obvious really.

And it should go well really, same rods and crank as my last glanza which coped with well over 200 before unknown rod failure so could be interesting.

thats a nice gt you have there good man for saving her :) :)

i do have my worrys about the turbos your planing to use on those china rods in the late 4efe block ( be safe ) dont push it to hard

Thanks Colin.

And i wont be pushing it too much tbh most it will be seeing on stock internals will be 220 (TD04 For now) And at somepoint i will downgrade to a TF035 For a bit more response.

Still stock ecu so will be wastegate pressure of approx 0.8. Money is tight ATM but at somepoint it will get an ECU etc and i can build a forgey lump.

The glanza lump i had before did well at over 240 for a long time with massive abuse and there the same rods/crank so there good for more power than people think. Wasnt there a report somewhere when they tested the strength of the later 4EFE/4EFTE Rods and they were just as strong as the early Thick ones?

Oh and update already, Put a deposit down on a full WEPR Evo TD04 Kit minus turbo, So with the spare housings at home i will be building a fresh TD04 13T With a new CHRA/Core and ported housings.

love a nice gt.great cars.

Thanks mikey. Always liked them so needed to try one!

sounds great toffs

bout the rods personal experience is the gt rods are stronger never 1s failed on me but have the china rods fail on me ( gen2 )

mabie i was just unluky ?

Im unsure Colin im sure the thread was on TGGT, About them being designed to bend and actually being very strong but god knows lol. We will see... I will push it to full potential of my new turbo and if it throws a leg out so be it. I have a spare 4E Block and Head, Forged rods etc sat about so could always build a forged 4E.

That or use the spare 5E Block And Crank and make another forged 5E!

:p

Oi oi looking good toff

Thanks laddo

  • 2 weeks later...

Nice update, Car is driveable and pretty much ready for an MOT.

Few photos showing the buildup below, All went pretty well considering and the car runs absolutely blob on. No fuel cut, No smoke, And feels nice and quick for the moment!

Suspension needs looking at and i need a new timing belt cover but apart from that im happy.
