Dansstarlet1996
its going to sound like a stupid question to those who already know, but can someone explain to me how it works and what it does for the car? does it improve oil cooling or anything? many thanks Dan
5e colin
it releases engine back pressure out of the engine ( engine breather ) by doing so the can catches the fumes and drops the oil residue in the tank
Dansstarlet1996
so does it make the engine run any better? or perform any better?
nikhilkamdar12
As 5e colin says, from the PCV (Positive Crankcase Pressure) valve instead of going back into your intake all the fumes and nasty shit for emissions to get re-burned you route it to your catch can. The benefit over not doing it is that it help keep the inside of your intake manifold a lot cleaner and the combustion cleaner too as you can imagine that black oily stuff in the catch can is getting burned inside the engine if the catch can wasn't there. Hope this helps
Dansstarlet1996
thank you so it sort of prolongs the life of the engine abit by looking after it? doesnt affect the performance or anything though?
DevonGT
Helps it breath better.
Dansstarlet1996
ah i think i get it so would be a worth while thing to do? (im running a standard 4efe at the moment)
nikhilkamdar12
Yes, I would say its a good thing to do regardless if your running big power or stock. You can spend your money on other things such as FMIC or the likes before tackling the ventilation system thoo The benefits come more as you run more power as the engine can breath way more as the 4EFTE does not have a crank case breather, only what is on the rocker cover. Dansstarlet1996
ah i see, plans at the moment are to just improve on the onboard stuff already, so oil catch can now, braided brake lines, etc just little bits to make it abit better, as im on a tight budget for the moment Edited June 15, 2015 by Dansstarlet1996
daniel_g
Improve the handling instead and have a bit of fun
Dansstarlet1996
i looked at that sort of thing, was looking at some whiteline front and rear strut braces, and found a Tegiwa torque damper but dont know if theyre worth putting on?
Gainzy
Cusco brace's, polybush engine mount over torque dampers. Catch cans get used alot in builds I don't use one but as above you can put money elsewhere without much worry for one.
