dan106
So i bought a cheap set of wheels, but when i put two on the front they make the same rumble as a gone wheel bearing, but its gone now ive put shit steels back on. Havent had a chance to look in to it that much, but just wondering if anyone has had it?
Sefton-EP91
Are the tyres the same? I would say it's tyres rather than the wheels! Are there any massive differences between the wheels?
dan106
I was thinking tyres as yes they were two different ones, I'll try the two with matching baldys tomorrow aha,
StuDoc 72
Did the wheels sit flush on the hub? Is the centre bore the correct size? Did you use alloy wheel nuts or steel wheel nuts? Are the stud holes worn? Sounds to me like the wheels weren't on right.
dan106
Centre bore is way off to be fair, but I've never had spigot rings and I've never had this noise beforeWheels did look like they sat flush, but thinking about it the face of the back of the wheels was well corrodedSteel nuts, hole looks fine, bolts sat nice in the wheelIt was raining and dark when I fitted them so I didn't look into it greatly tbh
Ep82gi
I get the same thing all the time it doesn't do it at about 60-70mph but anything other than that and it dose you can feel it in both footwells if you grip the steering wheel really tight. It's caused by the fact I have no spigot rings for my wheels n the centre is well off. Edited November 6, 2015 by Ep82gi
StuDoc 72
Fit spigot rings. Clean the alloys mating face. Use alloy wheel nuts as the are tapered and steel wheel nuts aren't. Get the wheels balanced and look for visible buckling. Once you've done all of that they will be fine as long as they aren't buckled. Then if you still have any vibration your tyres are goosed. dan106
Steel wheel nuts are tapered aswell, if I weren't using tapered wheel nuts they'd do more than just make a funny noise lol!I'm thinking it's the tyres, I'll try the other two after work and go from there
StuDoc 72
Not all steel wheel nuts are most of them are rounded.
dan106
I'm using tpi extended ones, had them on 3 cars with no spigot rings and never had a problem, gotta be the corrosion on the wheel or the tyres then
StuDoc 72
Ahh so they are alloy wheel nuts anyway. If you get them sitting flush and sure they are tight then its either the tyres or buckled wheels.
dan106
Na they are steel ones still, I'll never use alloy ones again after the d1 specs I had on my n/aThey will be tight I always use a torque wrench on wheels
morgey
I think he means they are designed for alloys not theyre made of alloy 😉
dan106
Now see that makes more sense aha! Using these nuts(You can see why I want to change these)These wheels (front ones)
StuDoc 72
I think he means they are designed for alloys not theyre made of alloy Yes this lol. And yes those are alloy wheel nuts they would be fine.
JDMfreak
tyres out of shape by any chance inspect tyres see if theres any parts of them buldging or deformed seen tyres make odd noises because of mounting kerbs and breaking the small plys inside of them making them deform and rumble

dan106
Yeah they're cheap wheels pretty damn buckled, so I stuck them on the back and put my Rotas on the front, seems ok so far
StuDoc 72
Its the buckles in them.
