Rumbling wheels

Recommended Posts

So i bought a cheap set of wheels, but when i put two on the front they make the same rumble as a gone wheel bearing, but its gone now ive put shit steels back on.

Havent had a chance to look in to it that much, but just wondering if anyone has had it?

Centre bore is way off to be fair, but I've never had spigot rings and I've never had this noise before

Wheels did look like they sat flush, but thinking about it the face of the back of the wheels was well corroded

Steel nuts, hole looks fine, bolts sat nice in the wheel

It was raining and dark when I fitted them so I didn't look into it greatly tbh

I get the same thing all the time it doesn't do it at about 60-70mph but anything other than that and it dose you can feel it in both footwells if you grip the steering wheel really tight. It's caused by the fact I have no spigot rings for my wheels n the centre is well off.

Fit spigot rings.

Clean the alloys mating face.

Use alloy wheel nuts as the are tapered and steel wheel nuts aren't.

Get the wheels balanced and look for visible buckling.

Once you've done all of that they will be fine as long as they aren't buckled. Then if you still have any vibration your tyres are goosed.

Steel wheel nuts are tapered aswell, if I weren't using tapered wheel nuts they'd do more than just make a funny noise lol!

I'm thinking it's the tyres, I'll try the other two after work and go from there

tyres out of shape by any chance inspect tyres see if theres any parts of them buldging or deformed seen tyres make odd noises because of mounting kerbs and breaking the small plys inside of them making them deform and rumble
