speermint
May sound like a silly question but if my 4efte engine blew up, is it as simple as just putting a new one in and drive away? Wont have a problem with the electrics or anything?
morgey
Only thing you might have is a couple of sensors that might need swapping over if the new engine is from a Gt and the old one is a V engine or visa versa. Other than that bolt in and go.
speermint
Know of any threads on here already? Or any idea as to which sensors? Its a GT engine going into a glanza by the way
patman
You could always do it by getting little sticky paper and writing on them and sticking them to each sensor as you take them off, might be a good start and a little easier when putting it back together
ChrisLeeBoost
I always found putting bits in a ziplock bag and labelling the bag was extremely handy and saves you a serious headache and some time searching the web Not a silly question mate we all have to learn somewhere
StevieGT
There shouldn't be a problem with the electrics as you would be putting the same engine in and its the same loom that runs it (4EFTE loom to 4EFTE engine, you should be able to put a new one in and just drive), so all connectors would be fine. Just be careful not to damage any of the clips or the wires when taking them or the engine out. Also probably best to do as above and label the wires with a marker and masking tape and put bolts etc in labelled bags.
speermint
So i bought a GT engine to go in my glanza anything i should know?
morgey
Pretty sure its the coolant temp sensor that is different on the Gt. But you should have everything you need on your old engine to swap over if anything is different.Other than that youre good to go

StevieGT
A couple of long ways which would definatley tell you, would be the size of the clutch (the 4EFTE one is bigger 212mm I think) and you could take the sump off and see the marking on the crank, I think the 4EFTE ones are marked as 4ET and the 4EFE ones as 4E. But failing that you could check each engine side by side and see the vacum lines and the differences. Or you could take the engine number off the block (I thinks it sticks out from the block above the distributor and then check with Toyota and see what they have it as (This would involve the least work and Toyota should know). Also have a search online and see if there are othe ways.
StevieGT
You can see what I mean about the cranks from the two images here: http://www.ukstarletowners.com/topic/54832-where-to-get-a-knife-edge-crank-from/ 1st image marked 4E, 2nd marked 4ET.
