Has a short 90 out the silicone which means the short route is nowhere near it

Just try and stay away from foam types.

Personally I wouldn't use mesh. Don't wanna get in a big debate about it. The hks filteration is not supposed to be the best. Any induction filter will be fine. I use one by a company called drift works. I believe there Australian but for jap cars.
