    To clarify

Our car does not smoke, it is not dangerous in any way hence the perplexed nature of my OP.

This debate around mot and safe cars is off topic, the dva clearly states my original mot is valid until the date specified as long as it is road worthy (which it is)

To those being helpful, thank you again, to those weighing in with no real insight.... don't.

Bit harsh seeming people are just trying to help one way or another... In

Think people were just trying to help to ensure you weren't driving around in an illegal car, with any confusion or not! In terms of the emissions, get a print out and upload it and go from there

Just spoken to my mate is reply is as follows.

(Still has mot but if failed on dangorous shit then they can contact police.)

Imo i wouldn't chance driving it until the issues are sorted and it has a valid mot again. I'd be inclined to phone vosa direct and ask them.

    Cheers nick

If it failed emissions yet has an a mot, its not really any different than a person putting a cat on for a mot then taking it off. Just failing on emissions id carry on driving it, as long as thats the extent of it

But, lets say the car is that bad it needs a rebuild, that should be blindingly obvious right? Smoking its tits off and what not. Surely that would be justifiable to pull over.

Not sure how that would fall into a car not being road legal tbh, depends on the person who spots it i imagine. Take the police round Gloucester, they are pretty dam laid back

Well this is it isn't it. Is the car road legal or not? What makes a car road legal, MOT, Tax and insurance?

Emissions isnt something that is likely to be tested at the side of the road really so be hard to prove its not road legal. If it had bald tyres. suspension arms hanging off etc that is a different story

Your not legal as it has failed a new mot only time it's allowed to move is if it's pree booked for an mot and still the police can still fine you if they wish give me 10 mins I'll ask my mate who has just gained his mot licence.

    Cheers nick

Mate thats off the GOV website

Lol. I wasn't sure, but that's pretty shady if you ask me.

It could have failed because it's really bad, but so long as it was alright 12 months ago then you're legit.

Pretty funny but if that's what they say thanks for clearing it  up.

Well no, theres a difference between having a MOT and a car being road legal!

You do realise now it's failed it no longer has a valid mot.?

    Cheers nick.

Was pretty sure this wasn't true, gov website confirms

    Driving a vehicle that’s failed

You can take your vehicle away if your MOT certificate is still valid

These aren't that effective in engines since a lot of the wear is non-magnetic material (bearing material especially). The best thing is spending more on good filters like Mann or Mahle/Knecht or OEM.

They are more effective in gearbox/diffs for sure.. There's almost purely magnetic particles there and no filter.

They are better than a non magnetic one

  9. DS2500 be worth the extra. EBC stuff never seems to be that great. I had greenstuff on a starlet and probably the worst pad ive ever experience.

Sometimes the thing that makes the biggest difference to calipers is making sure the sliders are properly greased up and and all the seals are in top condition

  10. If you have too change valve guides, personally i would rebuild the whole engine while the heads off.

Rust is a pain, most mot garages will just do a bodge job fixing it. Youll need it properly cut out and replaced with some decent preventative actions on it.

Pretty sure it's the glass that weighs the most. Besides, these cars need the weight at the rear end to balance them out a bit more.

That said, I would love a carbon boot, so long as the glass can be fitted.

So true on the weight needed at the rear

@Shyam I don't think that's it, that's far too simple. If it was simply an authentication mechanism, why is it valuable. Also, why is it getting harder to "Mine". We are told there are only a finite number mathematical equations that can be solved. But what you're saying is you're using a CPU to verify transactions. Which makes no sense since why would verifying a transaction become harder to verify the more you do it.

No, more likely they are trying to solve some sort of hard to break mathematical equation, wouldn't surprise me since if you could do that, people would pay a lot of money for it. And boom, that would be why Bit Coin would have value. But I literally have no idea :/ Wish someone could explain it to me haha.

I get what you're saying though bud.

Bitcoin has value now because its a good place to invest REAL MONEY, for people to get more REAL MONEY out of it. I bet most people have bought into it to sell the bitcoins at a profit than to actually use them

  14. Someone invented bitcoin....someone has the ability to crash it.I also think people are very very naive to think there is no interference anywhere

There is no value to it...its all speculative hence the reason it shot up so fast. People are buying it as an investment not as a currency. The same as buying a nissan GTR because they will go up in value, but you wouldnt try and buy your weekly shop in GTRs.

Unfortunately it's no longer backed by Gold. We are now living in a time where our money is backed by petroleum.

In 1933, President Richard Nixon announces that US will no longer convert dollars to gold at a fixed value. Therefore abandoning the gold standard.

During The Great Depression (1929-1939), most countries were forced to remove the gold standard from their currencies; including UK, in 1931.

You'd think this would be common knowledge but it's one of those things they want to erase from history...

I did put 'was'. Still against the point, sterling was developed against something of value. It's built up that strength and now has no real risk of every dropping off face of the earth (within a reasonable time). It's not like you can go into a shop and they refuse to take sterling...most places even take sterling abroad!!
