Thankyou Colin mate now I need to know what exact gauge I need to do this if anyone has any ideas The bloke from the engineering shop gave me: Mains on crankshaft 47.00mm Big ends on crankshaft 40.00mm Rod bore 43.00mm Maybe he has just rounded off to the nearest hundreds as you said not thousands? So it's a case now of what gauge I need to get 👍

Engine removal out the top......advice please?
patman replied to Rossco1991's topic in 4E-FTE Engine Discussions
Hello mate I actually took my engine out from the bottom and wasn't using a ramp either, took some advice jacked the car up each side as far as it went and used axle stands yes the front of the car was up really high, so handbrake on and blocks in rear wheels also had supports underneath the car to be even safer just in case anything gave way all sensors out and pipes off etc, rad off drained water, oil, then gear box oil, front wheels off, to get drive shafts out then engine crane to lower it to the floor and pulled it out underneath (with front bumper off of course up to you though mate I ju -
With all the help your giving me mate dam right it's gonna be measured right, this is what messed the rebuild up first time round I can't afford to have it done again, will have I wait till Monday now to do it well I won't be my mechanic will 👍

Hello Adam mate that's what I'm doing but it's just one thing after another getting everything right 👍

Colin mate I'm beginning to think your a toyota starlet guru your always on to most things I have noticed, and your an absolute star for helping me out and others out, I don't know what other people do when putting an engine back together esoecially when it comes to the clearances etc etc it's just thrown me when toyota and as stated in the link what standard mk bearings I need 1, 2 or 3 and I certainly don't wanna pick and hope for the best needs to be spot on, So what I will do is put the caps back on 1 to 5 and torque them up to what the spec says then get a micrometer and measure the ho

Hello Phil he did give me a bit of paper and on it, it said mains 43 ends 43 if this means anythings that's after it had a polish as didn't need a regrind as got another crank, as my original one was a mess 👍
-
Sorry Adam mate I get you now it was low oil pressure before as the oil light in my car was flickering for a few weeks before I stopped the car the machine guy didn't give me an answer he just said there worn, there's no scoring on them, they have a tiny lip on them each side where the rod sits and it's only a darker colour in the middle Oh and there wasn't any knocking either before the only reason this came about in the first place was because I read about oil light flickering, it wasn't the switch or low level oil so took the sump off and that's when I realised there was all metal bits in
-
Hello mate so basically I am putting one crank cap on? Or all 5 and tighten them to the torque setting spec, and that will give me what shell I will need (and for rod shells too) obviously with using the correct measurement tools? A micrometer or feeler gauge?
-
That's true mate but if my crankshaft has been measured at 43 which is standard size I need to know what big end/main bearings to get 1,2 or 3
-
The crank for ends and main are 43 (I will double check when next down the unit) so that's means looking at the link chart I will need std mk 1 shells?
-
Thankyou Phil all I know is my crank is standard size no regrind etc it's had a polish etc before engines going back in but Jesus Christ this is getting hard work now trying to find out what sizes I need the bloke at toyota hasn't a clue
-
I rang up toyota today to get my bearing set, he checked for me and said the are 3 different types as in 1,2 and 3 I need a standard set for my gt turbo does anyone understand any of this I looked at the clearences from link below its a case of do I order shell set 1,2 or 3 from toyota http://www.toyotagtturbo.com/forums/showthread.php?27569-4EFTE-Torque-Specs Thankyou Pat

Oh mate the engine hasn't been put back together yet as everything is being done right with the engine, was only asking what courses worn pins? As mine were worn apparently, there was no knocking though when the engine was in this all started ages due to oil pump failure, so due to work etc I been sorting the parts out slowly 👍
-
Hello Adam mate, it is a reputable place yes but when you mentioned serious oil starvation, well my oil light on my dash was flickering for a few weeks and of course it turned out the oil pump was on its way out so maybe that's where the oil starvation had come from thinking about it?
-
Hello Colin mate i know what you mean well I don't actually hehehe I don't know what to think of it, if it's the piston holes that get worn surely why would they just after a year? Just trying to find out before the engine gets rebuilt 👍
-
I just got my crankshaft, rods, back from the machine shop to be checked measured and all that stuff, due to a bent rod originally on mine I managed to pick up some good 4efte rods which were checked and measured etc, he told me the gudgeon pins (which as far as I know are only a year old) are worn, and didn't put then back in the pistons, I said to him what could course the pins to be worn only after a short time to his reply was to much power, I did chuckle and say it's only running 200bhp, all 4 gudgeon pins are worn so I hope this all makes sense and hopefully someone could give me some i

Now that's a bargain 👍

I'm just wondering why you would need to notch the Block? http://youtu.be/-LUQzfnYnAw

This is a wicked video mate but I couldn't help noticing what fabric you have used on your dash board as that looks bloody awesome 👍

Brought a brand new head gasket of Adam, very very pleased with it at a good price, great communication at all times and well packaged. Thankyou so much mate 👍 Pat

I will have it mate Pmed 👍

I know we Pmed the other day mate so don't wanna be messing about now am looking for a new head gasket but 1) are blueprint as good as oem toyota gaskets and 2) what Bhp do they hold up too, if it's the same as the oem toyota ones then should be good for 200bhp? 👍
