  1. Year: 1998
    Model: Starlet S
    Tax: N/A
    MOT: June 2017
    Mileage: 133k

Description: I'm sad to see her go, but I fancied something with a bigger engine and I don't have room to keep her.

The clutch was new on 2 years ago, she's done around 12,000 miles since. All belts were changed last year.

Barebones spec UKDM EP91 with a few mods:

    Glanza strut brace

    Corolla inlet

    K&N cone filter

    Paseo armrest

    GT front seats

Unbranded alarm, immobiliser and central locking

    C52 gearbox

    Kenwood speakers front+rear

All interior bulbs swapped for blue LEDs

Also included in the sale is my box of parts, which includes a rear numberplate surround in black, which I never got round to fitting, Glanza taillights, and an ECU from an EP95 (3rd gen FE engine with the coilpacks, I was planning to convert it but had a hard time sourcing the parts when I was living in Cornwall. Just needs a donor E11 Corolla at a scrappy. Parts needed are crank sensor, coils, HT leads and a chunk of the wiring loom to connect them to the ECU. Should run about £60).

Bad points are she has a minor fuelling/ignition problem which only rears its head when you try to pull away enthusiastically, and the 2nd gear synchro in the gearbox crunches a bit unless you granny shift into it. I'll be taking the stereo out for my new car, which didn't come with one, but I'm willing to source and fit a cheap one (around £10) if you'd prefer.

Low price because I really don't have the room for her and I'd ideally like her gone before the end of the month so I can more of my tax back. She'd make a great daily or a solid investment if you wanted to break her for parts.

    Price: £250

  2. minimal indeed not much gains to be had there over rated 6000+ they work a tat better find them for 100£ thats ok anymore is just rip off

totally waste of time on a ct9 because you have to change gear before they start working propperly

swapping your 4efe clutch / fly to a super light weight fly and clutch ( under 4kg ) from 4efte will give better gains !!

Don't you lose a lot of torque going to a lightweight fly?
  3. There isn't one on an SR, that's on an FTE.

The SR uses the same throttle body as the rest of the UK starlets. For more ponies, you could try to source a wider one but you'd need a commensurately larger intake to go with it (such as the above-mentioned FTE one) but then you run into a host of sensor issues that it's not really worth getting around for the maybe 3-4hp increase and loss of torque.

The usual inlet mod on the 4EFE is to swap the manifold over for the tubular one off a late-90s Corolla. It increases low down torque a bit and you can use the original throttle and sensors.

  4. Don't really know what's going on here. The car seems to run fine when I get it going, there's no discernible loss in power or torque. It idles fine, 1100-1200 cold dropping to 800 or so when warm and seems to be able to idle all day.

Where it goes wrong is when I'm pulling away, as soon as the clutch bites the revs drop right down and it almost stalls out, then it seems to recover. It doesn't matter what I do with the throttle at this point, the revs drop to 400 or so and then pick back up. I don't know if it's connected, but there's also a kind of whining note to the engine as well that hasn't always been there but I put down to my gearbox being a piece of shit.

I've tried loading revs before pulling away, easing it like I'm carrying TNT, and just pulling away in 2nd. Nothing seems to help.

I've got no other signs of a headgasket fail, no white smoke or increased oil use. All fluids are topped off. No EML. No recent mods that I could've fucked up. I don't have a compression tester to see where that's at. It just started last week and I'm kinda lost on what it could be.
