If they're that cheap I will get new ones il do it right going to do water pump and stuff while it's getting head gasket and I might do oil pump too! I don't actually even know if the headgasket is gone yet I won't know till Monday I don't have the time to be at the car with work and I need it for work so time to splash the cash I think
-
Sorted will get one from Toyota thanks Colin I probably won't be doing the gasket myself but will supply a genuine one for mechanic, will I defo need to replace head bolts And if I do will I need ARP or will Toyota ones do
-
That's grand the price of them steel gaskets the multi layered ones, I know the saying goes buy cheap buy twice but I just wanted to know which gasket was best to use for the setup I will have
-
I always found putting bits in a ziplock bag and labelling the bag was extremely handy and saves you a serious headache and some time searching the web Not a silly question mate we all have to learn somewhere
-
Have to replace head bolts aswell I forgot that
-
They are quite pricey at 150 euro :/
-
If I was to do my headgasket would it be ok to use oem gasket or something or should I go Athena steel gasket? Will be running 1 bar td04 at some point so just want to know which gasket to use before I go ahead with it
-
Just hold your hand on the cap to take some pressure off it and undo the Allen bolts on it!
-
eBay stainless steel ones
-
Yeah will do, if it's head gasket the car is getting broke for parts
-
Also I noticed the overflow keeps filling up
-
Yeah using a trd one that came with the rad Yeah using a trd one that came with the rad

Haven't checked the water pipe behind engine yet mate will have a look tomorrow! The bleeder thing on bottom of rad seems to be fine and can't see any signs of leaking from water pump but as you said I should check with engine running, heater matrix is that a common problem? Is there any symptoms to look for when it's the heater matrix acting up? Thanks for the replies lads I'm on the verge of pulling my hair out at this stage
-
My half rad is losing a lot of coolant and the car keeps overheating, there's no milky stuff around cams when I open up oil filler cap, and no foaming out of the rad and no visible signs of any leaks anywhere, any ideas lads it's been fairly cold around lately so there is a fair bit of condensation coming out of the exhaust at times, the last thing I want to hear is head gasket gone
-
Check the bulb?
-
Yeah no bubbling and it's stopped overheating since I burped the radiator well for the time being as I haven't driven it much! It wouldn't start for me either so I changed fuel pump and still no joy and then I pulled dizzy cap and points were kinda crusty gave them a bit of a clean and she fired up
-
Been running for about 40 mins now and still bubbles coming through the funnel, it hasn't overheated once and fan is working as normal and temp gauge is staying normal too, small bit of white mist coming out of exhaust not much though and it's not that warm here either
-
Nevermind it's hot now! I checked the stat in boiling water and it seemed fine and now there just seems to be a lot of air bubbles coming up through the funnel in the top of the rad
-
Just getting the air out of the system here and I noticed the bottom rad hose is cold is that the thermostat that's gone?
-
Never checked while I was driving i don't think so tho I've never seen any smoke coming out of exhaust while driving only while at traffic lights have I seen it but that was in cold weather, yeah I'm gonna put the standard cap back on I've got a trd one on it at the moment could be the cause of the overflow filling up !
-
I'll check that mate thanks, Its not really smokey from what I can remember but when it's cold out its quite steamy but I'm presuming that's fairly normal? The overflow tank is full of coolant from the rad but it never overflows or bursts out of the tank
-
Need to get the car mapped soon anyways that's if I can sort all the little problems out with it it's giving me nothing but hassle
-
It was just attached to the battery tray so wasn't directly attached to the battery, really hope it's a simple enough fix the fuel pump is brand new it's an APS 255lph one
-
Yeah overflow is full but has just stayed full it hasn't bubbled up and burst cap off or anything, rad isn't foaming either so could it be that there's air in the system somewhere, I really hope it's not the headgasket Yeah overflow is full but has just stayed full it hasn't bubbled up and burst cap off or anything, rad isn't foaming either so could it be that there's air in the system somewhere, I really hope it's not the headgasket

It's losing coolant somehow and I can't see any leaks
