  1. Those are the articles I've already read and pretty much the only information on them that I can find. TD04L/TD04HL and HE221W/HE211W are so similar just one letter or number different it's easy to get them mixed up but yea I've already been through those articles and videos a few times. Doesn't look like anyone has actually tried it though. :(

  2. There were a few genuine HE211W's on ebay a few months back but they're all gone now, so probably stick with a TD04, at least you know what you're getting. I am interested to see what the HE211W is like compared to a TD04 on spool times though, as the turbine wheel dimensions are identical, it's supposedly just a modern update on the TD04.

  3. Yeah I don't think I'll be revving it to 8000+ rpm haha

There is another turbo I'm considering but no one seems to have heard or know anything about it - Holset HE211W.

The turbine wheel dimensions are identical to a TD04L and the housings are interchangeable. Supposed to be capable of over 300bhp and fast spooling.

  4. Is anyone running a TF035 (6cm²) on a 5E?

I'm going to be building a forged 5E soon, aiming for in the region of 240-270ish bhp, not really chasing numbers just want a decent amount of usable power, I've heard of TF035's making 240-250 on 4E's and of course the old tried and tested TD04 is capable of 270 odd.
240-250bhp would probably be "enough" and I'm thinking a TF035 on a 5E would be nice and responsive with plenty of usable mid range power, just concerned about it being choked at the top end.

I already have a TF035 6cm² which I originally bought for my unforged 4E but I'm going down the forged 5E route a lot sooner than expected, so wondering if I should forget the TF035 now and go straight to a TD04, I am thinking of trying the TF035 as I can easily change it for a TD04 afterwards but thought I'd ask if anyone else has done the same first.

  5. Following this on instagram, your Glanza looked really good I did see it at one of the shows last year, Japfest Silverstone I think it might have been, be interesting to see how this one turns out, any plans for EP71 turbo bodykit or going for a sleeper this time around?

  6. Can't believe I posted this in 2018 and still not got the TF035 fitted! A lot of delays on various bits and pieces and now delayed by the virus but got some nice parts ready to fit, ceramic coated WEPR kit, ME221 ECU plus some upgraded sensors, new fuel pump and pressure regulator along with 370cc injectors. Looking forward to getting it done just hope the old 4EFTE holds up afterwards lol..

  7. I occasionally come on here and have a quick browse but don't really bother posting much anymore and I expect a lot of others do the same, it's just not what it used to be.
It's funny that there's still so many old names around after all this time though. I wonder if it's worth posting in the progress blogs does anyone even read them now?

  8. Just been browsing and reading some old posts, disappointed to see no activity on the forum anymore, it used to be buzzing back in the day, I joined here in Feb 2008 so that's almost 10 years of being interested in Starlets, still recognise most of the names on here! It's nice to finally have a Glanza after all this time, back when I had my n/a EP91 I thought a TD04'd Glanza was the coolest thing on 4 wheels and now I've got one which is currently on a CT9 hybrid soon to be TF035.

But it seems the Starlet scene is nothing like what it used to be, often see tatty Glanzas which have fallen into the wrong hands being broken for parts on the fb groups, prices are all over the place, certain parts are now hard to find and massively over priced. At least there's still a few of us around and those that are are still really into it.

  9. Turbo turned up yesterday, got it for a decent price on ebay and it's in very good condition. TF035HM 6cm² from a Forester.

Does anyone know the exact spec of the compressor wheel on these? Usually they're in the name i.e. TD04L-13T-6 but there's no compressor wheel code on the TF.

Got a few other bits to sort out first and then it'll be fitted and mapped, hoping to make 230-240bhp.

  10. Has anyone gone from a hybrid CT9 to a TF035HM 6cm²? Spotted one yesterday and bought it, it was a bit of an impulse buy but it was at the right price and looks to be in good condition, if there's no shaft play then I'll easily be able to sell it back on for what I paid so nothing to lose anyway.

  11. What's the score with TF035's, I've done a lot of searching but there's just random bits of information thrown around and no clear answers.

I'm currently on a CT9 hybrid running 0.9 bar, standard internals, apparently 200bhp. Aiming for 230ish bhp.
Don't really want to go TD04 as I'd rather not push it too hard on standard internals and it seems a bit pointless using a TD04 when TF035's can still make ~230 bhp but spool quicker.

Has anyone got any dyno graphcs or any info on 4cm² vs 6cm² and spool times and peak power etc...? A lot of posts on here are just "I've got this and it's the best turbo ever" but what I want to know is which version is actually better suited for 230-240bhp, obviously the 6cm² is going to flow more but is the response gained from the 4cm² housing the reason why people rave about these turbos so much?
Has anyone gone from a CT9 hybrid to a TF035?

I was thinking this exact thing myself. 200bhp on a CT9 would be ideal for me. I was mainly thinking the wear on the gearbox and other components why it would be better to just keep the power on the low side. I'm sure I'd get bored of 200bhp pretty quickly.

It really depends what sort of road you're on, twisty B roads it's fine and feels like plenty of power but once you do a few pulls on a dual carriageway it starts to feel under powered, back in the day it would have been considered quick but things have moved on so much now that standard hot hatches are nearly as quick as a tuned Glanza, 250bhp is what I'd really like. Keeping it sensible but still plenty of power in a light car, but then I find it hard to justify the cost of forged internals for "only" 250 which would then make me want nearer to 300 to make it worth the cost lol.

If you come up with a price, on me! I’m thinking of ditching the TD04 and going back to a ct9!

What makes you want to ditch the TD04? What power are you running?

I'm really not sure what I want to do yet, always used to see it back in the day where people would chase high power numbers and then shortly after the car would be broken for parts because it had gone too far and was horrible to drive. I'd like a bit more than 200 but without too much lag, so I'm really considering a GT20 as opposed to an old school TD04.

  14. Sorry if this is in the wrong place, not sure where to post this, it's been a long time since I've been into Starlets so I'm a bit lost on the value of 2nd hand parts these days.

Currently running a TD CT9 hybrid, manifold, and decat. Thinking of upgrading to something like a WEPR GT20 or TD04 kit, so just wondering how much I can expect to make back from selling the CT9 kit, the turbo is just under a year old and has been ran at slightly under 1 bar, and I've always left it to warm up and cool down properly. Also thinking about upgrading to a stand alone ECU so might throw in the E-manage blue along with it. I'm not really sure if I should bother yet or just get the map tweaked and squeeze a bit more out of the hybrid as I'm still on standard internals.

Also where are people buying and selling parts these days? The forum used to be flooded with 2nd hand stuff, now it's hard to find anything, the facebook groups aren't that good and there's hardly any activity on here any more.
