  1. There are a lot of quick Starlets and a lot of quick Civics, just because one particular tuned Glanza beat one particular tuned Civic does not mean all Glanzas are faster than Civics, it works both ways.

It's hard to compare them directly though as you can say the 4AGE is comparable to the B16 and the 2ZZGE is comparable to the B18, whereas the little 4EFTE is in the same league as a turbo'd Honda D series.

I'd like to see some of you "TD04 Glanza fastest car in the world" types go up against an N/A K20 swapped Civic with some bolt ons + K Pro...

  2. Not to mention it takes an absolute age to hit v-tec!!.. In my personal opinion.. Boosted Vtec is a massive huge mofoing win!

Not it doesn't... sorry but that one really gets on my nerves, first gear is always short so the redline comes up quite quick anyway, and then once you're on VTEC you don't come off it. If you're rolling in a higher gear, just go down a couple of gears and you're on VTEC immediately.

It's the same as turbos, okay there will be a slight delay with them but it's not huge, first gear is short so you don't have to wait long, then once you're on boost just keep it planted through the gears, it's not like you have to wait for it to spool every time you change gear as long as you keep the revs up.

It's like that pointless test they did on top gear with the Evo in 5th gear vs some shitty car and the shit car pulled away. It proves nothing because anyone with half a brain would change down a few gears, and you don't buy an Evo to cruise around everywhere in 5th gear.

Lol spoon_tuned you got that right with the stance thing, gay as fuck!

  3. I take it this was aimed at me? lol

I'm not asking you to care, I'm giving my experience which is what the OP wants to hear, arguments for and against the cars. Yeah a Starlet will need a few upgrades but to say a Civic will shit all over one? Clearly not in my case.

Secondly, if I "think" i kept up with one? So gaining distance over 2 laps isn't keeping up with one? OKAY

Lastly, I'm not claiming a Starlet isn't basic, I'm disproving people that claim EPs can't handle. And for the record, I'm pretty sure the EP3 had coilovers and the driver was certainly not holding back on the throttle. Anyone will agree that a fairly basic NA being able to keep up with a 200bhp hot hatch is respectable.

No lol you got the wrong end of the stick there mate, it was just meant in general, you always see people on forums saying I kept up with {insert car here} in my .... but it doesn't really mean anything without knowing the full spec of each car as well as both driver's ability. I was just stating that the Civic chassis is "better" than the Starlet but that's not to say Starlets are incapable of going round corners, mine certainly wasn't!

At the end of the day though it's more down to personal preference, I loved my Starlet but comparing it to a Civic, both cars with uprated suspension but the same tyres, when you get on the limit in the Starlet the front end tends to just wash out whereas in a Civic it feels more controllable, the back end feels alive compared to the Starlet which I think is down to the simple setup on them.

I do like Starlets though, the main thing that gets me is the lightness, not many cars are really that light when you look into it. EP3's for example are easily over 1100+ kg infact I think they're more towards 1200kg.

  4. A standard Glanza is about on par with a standard B16 Civic up to around 75mph where the Civic will start to pull away.

B series are good engines, D series slow unless boosted. You'll need to be running decent power to keep with a K swapped or B20 Civic.

Basically if you've got money to spend on tuning then a Glanza has more potential in the long run, unless you put a turbo on the Civic.

Handling wise Hondas are generally better, especially the Type R's, I don't care if you think you kept up with one on the track in your Starlet with some coilovers, that was down to the driver. The Starlet chassis is very very basic and they need a few upgrades before they handle as good as a Civic. Front double wishbone and fully independant rear suspension vs the Starlet's rear beam.

Brakes - Starlet brakes from my experience have been quite shit, most Hondas have 262mm front brakes as standard and are easily and cheaply upgraded to 282mm.

If you have plenty of money to spend tuning a 4EFTE and some spare change to throw at some coilovers/rear ARB/etc... then go for a Glanza, if you just want to do some basic mods - induction kit/exhaust/supension and leave it at that then get a Civic. I'd rather have a B18 Civic than a CT9 Glanza. Start talking TD04's and I'd quickly change my mind.

  5. Some people's Toyota blinkers are stuck on lol.

I used to be 100% with Toyota, wouldn't even consider any other make or model, if it didn't have that T badge on the bonnet I wasn't going near it!

But I've since owned other cars (Japanese and British), and my Toyota blinkers have come off. I still wouldn't touch any piece of shit French car though.

  6. So you just book in advance, turn up on the day, have your fun round the track and go home, no need for anything extra?

Do you change anything on the car before going out on track? How many times can you go on the track in a day? All tracks are at least an hour or two away from me so I'd want a good hour or two of track time (I know it's in 20 minute sessions so would want at least 2-3 maybe 4 sessions lol).

  7. Insurance on a GT is £650 cheaper then the dc2 and the eg is the same £650 cheaper

If that's the case then I'd go for a GT.

Going to the EG/B18C4 is a downgrade and I think I'd be disappointed if it were me, because you're going for a car that's "the same but worse" if you know what I mean, whereas a Starlet GT is a different car altogether. Not to mention it not being down as a 1.8 on the log book.

And trust me you don't want to lose your license, you will have no hope of insuring anything good afterwards. :(

  8. How much cheaper is a GT or EG? The best car out of those is the DC2, going from a DC2 to a swapped EG will only be disappointing I think, it's a big downgrade (depending on what mods the EG has).

The Starlet has a lot of potential for future power upgrades but overall the DC2 is better "out of the box" if you know what I mean, with nothing done to it at all it's still quick and handles well etc...

  9. I really like these, they need a well priced bolt-on turbo kit though. N/A 1.5 just isn't enough power.

Also, why ITB if you're planning on supercharging later? I'd just save up and go straight for boost, ITB's will sound great but you wont gain much without other mods (i.e. cams).

  10. I recognise your name from CivicLife I think :)

I'd guess they fit, I once had some ET38 alloys on a Starlet, and they were fine. Spigot rings should sort out the centre bore shouldn't they?

Fanblades would look quite good on a Starlet!

  11. I have no idea how much a standard 4EFE could take but you should be able to run a few psi without problems as there are people in other countries who have the Toyota Tercel which has a 5EFE, some of them bolt turbos onto those (some do the 4EFTE swap) but there are plenty of FE+CT9 setups around so they must be good enough for low boost.

The only thing I'm unsure about with boosting an FE is that I don't think they have a knock sensor amongst other things but I might be wrong.
