I hope so. I just want to see what Starbus says and some idea of the actual price and how long it takes to make them etc...
-
I'm not sure tbh, Starbus hasn't really said much. He first PM'd me offering to make me a custom manifold and asked how much it would cost, and he said it would be cheaper if it was a group buy. So I posted this up to see how many people would be interested and it's looking good so far.

lol feminism just print this out and take it to school:

I don't know how much money you have coming in but one thing I'd keep in mind is insurance costs. 4EFTE swap with a TD04 is going to cost a shitload.
-
A Glanza would muller a 306 GTI-6. They have over 160bhp but weigh over 1200kg... 0-60 is definately slower than a standard V.
-
In my town there's just me (white N/A) and another unmodded white N/A driven by a postman lol, and I've seen 3 or 4 others around but they were all unmodded N/As mostly driven by old ladies. But there's a black GT and a black Glanza local to me.

Nice one that's a possible 7 people now: 1. ste91 2. Rich 3. TSP 4. Bluebear 5. nic1.3 6. Jones_799 7. Mikey Jay

It would be nice if they could have slight alterations for each one depending on what size exhausts people have. Myself I'm going to try the manifold with the standard exhaust system, maybe with the cat removed. As for R&D/testing these manifolds, Starbus says there wont be any, but he seems to know what he's doing, he said he's currently working on an EP3 Civic manifold which has had ~5 hours on the dyo. Aslong as the overall design looks good and the diameters and lengths of the runners are good lengths then that's enough for me. "If it looks right, it usually is right".
-
I can't see why not, afterall, they are custom made.

I wouldn't pay any attention to what Saxo drivers say, the only ones that are worth a shit IMO are the VTS, and even they are underpowered. Shitroen only get 120bhp as standard from a 1.6 whereas Toyota can get up to 162bhp as standard from the same litre. (4AGE 20V ftw ) Saxos might handle a bit better than Starlets as standard due to the Starlet having a rear beam, but that Saxo driver is an idiot, it sounds like he had it braced to fuck without remembering things like rear anti roll bar etc... With the right mods the Starlet can become a very good handling, very predictable car. I am se

Hopefully it will give a nice even powerband and power towards mid/top but with a little loss at low end. (Whereas other manis would give us a bigger loss at low end). Also I think using it on a 5E would be good for midrange, having the runners on it smaller diameter than what you'd get on the OBX or Pacesetter.
-
Possibly go for something similar to the Toda one then? Just have to work out the right lengths/diameters but I think Starbus said he had some programs to work those out.

Here's another one, it's the Hurricane manifold made in Australia but I asked about it a while ago on AUSC and was told it was rubbish: And you can easily see why. The primaries are rather short and the lengths are all completely different. Here's the most commonly known manifold for the 5EFE; the OBX: Pacesetter 4-2-1: Pacesetter 4-1: Those are the off-the-shelf options we have, the problem being they're made for the 5E, and none are a particularly good design.
-
That mani looks decent, bit wierd though how the second and third primaries are quite short and first and fourth are much longer. I always thought equal length runners was best.
-
I'd love to see you do a really hard launch and watch them all come flying off. Especially the one on the right second from the end, he doesn't look too impressed.

Seeing as we haven't been keeping a list... 1. ste91 2. Rich 3. TSP 4. Bluebear 5. nic1.3 6. Jones_799 That's a possible 6 of us so far, and this has only been posted up since yesterday.

Agreed 100% and thanks for that pic it might be useful for Starbus.

lol I am surprised to see such geeky things on UKSC ^^

Mild steel is only needed on 4EFTE's due to the heat created by the turbo. Even stainless steel can be used on the 4EFTE but as we all know it cracks easily.
-
Come on get your names down, I know there are others who would be interested.
-
That's probably my favourite EP80 series Starlet ever. The bodystyling on these is so simple but it looks really good with those white 5 spokes. It looks so tame aswell, nobody would expect what it's hiding underneath the bonnet.
-
No I think Rob is right, it's hard to work to the confines of the standard mani and standard exhaust, and anyway some people have gone for custom exhaust systems anyway so there's no harm in doing a chop-and-weld to fit a manifold. It would be very easy for us to have a manifold that you can simply swap with the standard one but then you are very limited. IMO the manifold should finish somewhere underneath but in an easy location for welding/fixing the exhaust to it.

@ Rob - I agree, there isn't much space to work with if you just stick to standard mani size. @ Rich - a 4-2-1 with long primaries and slightly wider secondaries is what I thought would work well, giving us a decent even powerband unlike the manifolds that are available for the 5E which would give us not-so-good low end power.
