  1. ok. i suspect after a chat with paul that my car is overfueling a tad. as its a bit hefty on fuel and still feels down on performance, i couldnt get away from a polo gti the other day. what else could be a cause of it other than a faulty lamda? + sensors etc? as i'll hopefully be changing that soon(ish).
  2. i hated toad systems until speaking to a local guy who does the fitting... i wanted a cobra system, but he convinced me that the toad ai606 was better and cheaper. 300 notes later and i would honestly say i wouldnt swap it for the world. very good bit of kit. fitted for 200 is very good, but is he defo a certified fitter?
  3. i havent tested it yet bud. but i'll let you know what i get when i do. should be some time next week.
  4. i get about 250-280 miles out of £30 but if you want mega fuel consumption drive completely off boost and dont let the revs go past 2.5k rpm, i got 250miles out of a third of a tank using the same method.
  5. what compression readings should i be getting from a 4efte using a compression tester?
  6. ive just seen this thread, so i'll give you my honest opinion mikey. one major question is money. can you afford to run a turbo car? i know they dont drink that much fuel, but when your used to a n/a that drinks feck all its hard seeing that needle go down everytime you boot it. trust me. take me for instance, i wanted a V for 4 years and kept saying i would get one, but looking back on it there is no way i could have afforded to run one back when i was a student. plus if you have any problems with it, i.e. boost leaks (as i did) it can be really frustrating if you dont know what to look for, i'd say im reasonably mechanically minded and even i was pulling my hair out trying to sort out the boost spiking problem with mine! it got to the stage of driving it off boost for two days in fear of hitting fuel cut! so the question is if something goes wrong with it can you fix it? or can you afford to pay someone to fix it? and how screwed would you be without a car? its all very well everyone saying on here to get one, but theyre not the ones that'll have the heart ache if somethings wrong. if something happens it'll be YOU sorting it. im not saying this is going to happen as we all know our cars are probably some of the most reliable turbo small cars about, all im saying is you have to be prepared if something was to go wrong. im not knocking the choice of car or anything mate, because i'd say get a gt... but i dont want to see you sell a perfectly good car to buy a gt and be screwed because the turbo's blown after ten minutes. just my 2p. give it some thought mate. Rich.
  7. indeed. mine needs one. again, i have one for a borrow mate, but im miles away!
  8. its glanza179's missus's old car. dont know the guy who now owns it tho, jim said he's not on many forums.
  9. calm it down bud... you know you are my one and only B) the writing on the scoop is paint, but i cheated and used a sticker as a mask, i painted it in a flashback rainbow effect paint and then painted over, so it shows thru. you'll see at jae!
  10. thanks for the comments. im running an unknown make backbox with a straight through custom system. getting back on my feet update ok after the "badger incident", as its fondly known by my mates, i felt the car needed a bit of tidying up, so i drilled the bumper to stop the crack getting any bigger, and decided it needed a good clean. so i decided to go and buy meguiars 3 stage gloss system which consists of a paint cleaner, polish, and carabuna wax. and i have to say it looked amazing... anyone who's never used it should get some if you have a bit of spare time as all three stages take at least an hour a piece if you do a good job. you cant really tell the difference in the pics, but oli was pretty amazed by the difference as my cars is almost always dirty! also i found a little gem on ebay that i won at a measly price, its nothing special but its a nice thing to have along with the car. its the original jap brochure for the starlet, reflet, and glanza s & v. cost me £4 delivered to my door from japan also got a spare scoop the other week for £10, so i thought i'd do a black scoop for the bonnet, but i decided to do a little something different with it too. getting the car all serviced and cleaned tomorrow ready for my holiday! so i'll be in sunny (hopefully) dorset for a week... and im coming back on the saturday night so i'll have a morning to get ready for jae on sunday! so i'll see some of you guys there!
  11. jesus phil! you've been a busy bee! plans sound great. looking forward to seeing you at jae again matey! (im sacrificing my last days holiday in sunny dorset to go to jae! )
  12. a 5efe head is identical to the 4e head mate. but will offer no real performance advantage as the extra power comes from it being a longer stoke engine. the 5efhe head is different however, but not really in a way that will improve performace (waterways etc).
  13. ah, cool. thats what i wanted to know. do you have the part numbers for the shims at all matey? or know how much they are?
  14. hmm, so you cant just take the cam cover off and measure the gaps? bugger. that was gonna be my first port of call.
  15. as title. does anyone know the clearances for the shimms on a 4efte?
  16. no, i made the garage check with the mot centre (i know the guy) and he said that the 4efte starlet import didnt need a cat test. but when it was being tested he put in the regestration and it came up as a required cat test... which cannot be overided apparently?!?! so pissed off. as f*cking usual im having no luck with the car. apparently its possibly got a sticking valve, as one cylinder isnt giving an efficient burn. which would also explain my constant suspision of it being down on power. does anyone know of any common problems on fte's that can cause this? im getting totally sick of this.
  17. ffs ;) my car just failed its mot on emmissions due to the guy who regestered it regestered it as needing a cat test for mot. which there is no way around it. i would like to know if anyone else with a 98 passes with no cat? so it failed on: Co level: 0.62% max is 0.50% Hc level: 231ppm max is 200 apparently the hydrocarbons level (hc) can only be caused by a engine problem is this true? any known faults?? if its not one thing its the other!
