I've just spoken to my insurance. Everythng is sorted now so i don't need to worry about that now. Bad news is the car is in such a state im not allowed it back. It is a Cat A or B they said so it has to be crushed. Now i can move on from the SR . Bourkey

@ Tim - A few people i know reckon that as i pulled back in i did it too quick, which in some cars with a simple rear setup like mine could have made it step out of line. I had a rear anti-rollbar fitted along with decent shocks and springs to reduce it but this still happened. It is a major design flaw with these Starlets/GT's/Glanza's that has been discussed many times on here. Also the poor saftey of these cars is a weak point. You just don't think about that until something like this happens though, and to be honest i doubt a rollcage woud have helped much in this crash. I hope you are in no way the same condition as me Tim as my injuries are anything but a speedy recovery. Thanks a lot for you and Adam's help. You didn't save my legs, you actually saved my life which im eternally greatful for . As for the next car im now saving for a DC2 Integra Type R. I've always liked them and i can insure a uk one even if i do get points. They are a good power out of the box which is what im after as i chucked around 4-5k at the SR and now it's all gone. Plus the handlings of a Integra is supposed to be legendary . It's going to be a good while until i can drive again so i have plenty of time to save . Bourkey

I've got some guts the other day to go up to the crash site. I wanted to see it for myself as some of the witness statements didn't match up like one saying the cars were over 100 yards apart when they stopped. Well they weren't they were around 40 yards apart. When we got up there me and Craig felt sick with what we saw. Half of my car is still up there in hundreds of pieces. We found a headlight, interior pieces and the intact glass from my sunroof. There was all the markings on the road so you could see where the cars stopped and my skid marks. There was even a large red patch on the floor where i had been lying under my car. It didn't feel right as the was so much carnage and i have no recollection of it. I have photos from up there which i'll put up in a bit. Bourkey

Bring it to mine if you like and i'll talk you through it. Obviously i can't do it for you now . Bourkey

Im with Sparky on this one!!!!!!!!!!! Bourkey

Quick question, Was the piston in the caliper pushed back in for the new pads??? If not then the caliper wont go on as the gap will be too small . Bourkey

Nope Glanza ones will slot on fine as it is the same chassis . My shocks were actually from an EP82 and they fitted fine aswell on my SR. Bourkey

I wish. Im going to be off work for over a month and im not fit to drive until around the end of the year. Oh the joy. Im also using the laptop with one hand. If i go to the scrappy in a few weeks time with Craig i'll keep an eye for the bits you are after . Bourkey

@ Enzo - I've not got a clue as i don't remember and it's annoying that i can't because im losing sleep wondering what could make it step out of line so much i can't control it. They have checked the car and nothing was wrong with it so i don't think i'll ever know. @ Paul - I'll only be physically well enough to drive again at the end of this year they reckon so by the time i come to choose a car i'll know what i can have because, hopefully, everything should be settled by then. @ mel - Trust me after seeing my SR i doubt i'll own one again. A rollcage wouldn't have even helped. @ Sparky - Don't worry i have plenty of time to decide . The policeman also said that i shouldn't worry about it and get it out of my mind until the paperwork comes through. This is because nothing is set in stone, the case could even be dropped. They are taking everything into account like my injuries as he said im practically banned for a year now anyway due to my injuries not allowing me to drive. They are also going to look at my record which is squeaky clean at the moment. It's just a waiting game now. Bourkey

Just had the police round. He was a nice guy to be honest and was chatting to me for a good while. The good news, The actual story from him differs slightly. I did make it back in after the overtaking part but the cars on the otherside were not far off me but still adequate enough. Then as i have finished overtaking to move in the back end of the car has gone light and i have gone part sideways. I have corrected this but too much and gon back onto the otherside causing the collision. The policeman said i was going quick at the start of the passing but at the end i was backdown to the limit. Now the bad news. He has said this is likely to go to court for the charge of Dangerous driving or the lesser charge of careless driving. The officer is going to push for the lesser charge as he said after speaking to me i don't seem like your average idiot on the road. I was completely honest about everything as i still can't remember and he wasn't surprised at all. If it is the lesser charge i may get away with a driving course or points and a fine but if it is the higher charge im looking at a banned a hefty fine. I'll accept anything they give me as i was clearly not in control at the point of impact. Bourkey

Thanks Rick Quick update. The insurance have inspected the car, or whats left of it, and are also amazed im alive. The engineer has valued £1700 for the car, which is a fair enough and im doubting they are going to offer the car back to me. That payout will just go into a savings account until i am ok to drive again then i'll decide on a car. Sorry all but i doubt it will be a Starlet. As Rick pointed out in my other topic it just isn't strong and i want something a bit more robust. I've always wanted an MR turbo or GT4 so maybe thats what i will get. The police are also coming to see me tomorrow about the accident. The officer in charge doesn't sound like a tit when i spoke to him so that shouldn't be too bad. Some can be right cocky gits as we all know.

@ Boostjunkie - Bud i clearly know i am lucky and i have been pretty stupid to say the least. All i have to do is try and sit in a comfortable position without any aches and pains and it makes me think about the accident. I haven't stopped thinking about it since i woke up in intensive care. im not expecting people to pussy foot around what happened and be nice about it, which is why i came on here and told the truth about the accident instead of just hiding it all away. I know how stories can get bent and twisted so i explained it all myself. As for the liability...again... i have worked in law for a long time and i know where i stand. If i can't remember what happened i can't make a statement about the circumstances, which is where the police come in. Im not expecting much from the report though as they already believe i wasn't wearing a seatbelt when i clearly was. Bourkey

In an extreme twist of fate about 10 months ago me and Mark went driving on Snakes pass and actually got out at the corner where i have crashed and even taken pictures of the view. As you can see from the pictures i was coming down the hill when i was overtaking. There is a clear view all the way down of the corner as well. Bourkey

@ SooperD - After this crash i think i only have one life left. When i came out of the hospital i was very nervous about getting in a car si i had to get my dad to pick me up in his big car. I have been in cars since including a Starlet and i was fine and i will be back on the road in the future, but as i have only just started walking and i can't move my hand yet it is a good while off. Im also not allowed to drive until im cleared by my physio. Im also typing with one hand . @ jam-ep - Yep i did meet you at the last Manchester meet. I may be at the next meet but obviously not in the SR. Im also off work for over a month now. You may all be thinking yey for me but considering i never have any time off and i hate been off it's going to be crap. I have one day at home alone and it is sooooo boring. I don't know how you students cope . Bourkey

Like i said i can't admit liability as this is just what somene has told me. If i knew for certain what happened i could admit liability so the police have to investigate what happened. Also the police accused me of not wearing my seatbelt which is just stupid as i have massive cuts across my chest in the shape of.... a seatbelt and if you look at the seatbelt socket, it is still plugged in. I can't see how one crash in the hole of the uk can affect your insurance. There would have to be like dozens and dozens in a short space of time to make your premium go up. And i really do wish i could claim but if it was my fault it is very unlikely . The part that meant the most to me was when i met the guy who picked up the car. He said to the police at the scene "so the driver is a gonner a take it" and he also told m he has seen cars with less than half that damage and every person inside has died. If you look at my car it looks like it has been cut open by the emergency services, but that is how the car stopped. I wasn't in it and Craig was still sat in the passenger seat in the car you see. Imagine waking up and seeing half the car missing and no driver. Bourkey

Thanks all i do know how incredibly lucky i am. The only thing is i can't admit liability as i don't know what actually happened this is just the most likely story out of them all. The driver speeding up is just a theory remember. There is a big piece of the puzzle missing as i was on the wrong side of the road for too long. I would never do that ever no matter how daft i may be. Apparently i was pushing 80+ so why did i not get past the second car when they would be doing around 50??? Unless the driver comes forward i will never know. To be honest i don't care too much. Im still alive, which is the only thing that matters. I was thinking the other day of trailering the car to JAE as a reminder what can happen when things go wrong but i doubt i could even get it home if they give it me back. If i do get it back i would like people to come to see it as the pictures do not do it any justice at all. My parents cried when they first saw it. Bourkey

Well i have been to see the SR today for myself instead of looking at the pictures. To be honest when i saw it i was in shock. The pictures do not do the car justice at all. Im amazed i got off the scene with my heart beating. As the pictures show my entire side is completely gone with only part if the door internals remaining. All the electrics have been torn on that side so it looks like the entire car has shorted out. The keys are still in the ignition as i can't get them out due to the ignition being pushed so far inside the car. Also i can't open the bonnet to see the engine. As for the circumstances of the accident i have the details from the people at the scene who recovered the car. I can't say it is true because i obviously don't know but it is from a good source. I have gone to overtake two cars on a straight and passed the first but for some unexplained reason i haven't got back in. One theory is the second car sped up to not allow me in quick enough, but it was only a Renault Scenic so there shouldn't have been any problem but there was. I was still on the wrong side going round a corner. The Land Rover coming in the opposite direction pulled as far over his side as he could to let me past but it didn't happen and we collided and with such force he was facing the other way. I went spinning out of control and was pulled out of my car by my seatbelt. After i stopped 100 yards away from the Land Rover i was under the front of my car no where to be seen. In the first few minutes people could not find me and neither could Craig. He managed to persuade someone to give him a lift off Snake Pass to get signal to ring the emergency services while i was still not found. Then i moaned under the car and people found me under the car. A quick thinking person got a jack and lifted the car off me, which saved my life. Then i as taken care of and wrapped up in blankets and as you can see there was plenty of blood. After the emergency services turned up me and Craig went to seperate hospitals. I was 50/50 survival for the first night until i stabilized. I woke up in intensive car with lots of tubes hanging from all over me and a machine showing all my stats. I don't remember intensive care but i was awaking and cracking jokes apparently. Then the next thing i remember was waking up in a trauma ward as i'd improved enough to come out of intensive care. At the scene, the police thought i was not going to make it so the scene was closed for 5 hours. Now this goes to every single person reading this. I knew this road very well and even so this happened. No matter ho much you know a road, especially a country road, DON'T overtake EVER! We all do it but DON'T. I am lucky to be typing this right now. I have always said that we don't want an RIP topic on here and i nearly caused one myself. Im now not driving for months maybe even a year as im not in a fit enough condition to do so. Drive carefully!!!!! Thanks to all who helped save my life Bourkey Ps. Craig if you have any more pics please add them to this topic. Cheers
