can you not put the sensitivity up a bit? then wait with your baseball bat/air rifle lol. so, to confirm....do we all think my coolant should be okay? lmaoo
-
bastards arent they :s you got an alarm?

Ryan....its fine out of the bottle with the tester its rated at max...but the stuff in my engine is rated medium....i think it must be due to mixing with water left in the block from flushing the old coolant...thats what im getting at? Nazz...whats up with your car mate?

Ah i suppose your right mate, although i did used to work at a car dealers and we had one car that froze up and the core plugs popped out, water pump fucked etc, but that was because it was a trade in in winter and we werent told it had no antifreeze whatsoever...i assume having most antifreeze will be fine?
-
NAH MATE ITS TOYOTA READY MIXED RED COOLANT, SO I WONDER IF ITS BECAUSE OF THE WATER LEFT IN THE BLOCK FROM FLUSHING? I JUST WANNA KNOW IF ITS GONNA BE PROTECTED ENOUGH?                                         I DUNNO TBH, ITS A HALFORDS ANTIFREEZE TESTER TUBE THING LIKE A PIPETTE...HAS 3 BALLS AND THE MORE THAT FLOAT TO THE TOP THE MORE PROTECTED IT IS, 2 FLOAT TO THE TOP ONE SINKS IF THAT HELPS?AND SORRY...WOULD IT BE BETTER IF I STARTED A NEW ONE FOR EACH QUESTION I'M A BIT NEW TO THIS? by the way SORRY FOR CAPS N FORMATTING ITS MY PHONE
-
i'm a bit of an ocd thats probs why lol....but surely new coolant should be maximum protection? (it is if i test whats left in the bottle, but not whats now in the car?) if it will be fine then fair enough...i don't want it freezing and cracking the head thats all lol
-
Right i'm a bit confused n worried now....i've spent today dropping the coolant, flushing the whole system out and then replacing with the premixed toyota red stuff....and i've just checked it with a halfords antifreeze tester...to which it says medium protection.....im wondering if this is from the leftover water frpm flushing the system, and if so am i gonna have to redo it all or will it be fine?
-
Ah I see, thats the main thing though you don't want rubbing, i bought mine on some 17s which rubbed on the back...swapped em straight away and had to go over the arch lips with some white paint where it had rubbed the paint off
-
3litres of coolant or in total mixed? Thats a lot less than i'd read but as long as its less than the 5 litres i've bought haha. Gonna get up in the morn and flush it all including the heater matrix, swap the stat and refill. and might do a bit of engine bay cleaning haha
-
Mines a 98 spec so in the centre console I have hazard on left, passenger seatbelt warning in middle and rear screen demist on right, and then have the low boost button by the mirrors, although now i've removed the restriction I might put something here...its to the right of that where the fog button is and i've seen two buttons in its place before? I dunno if pre facelifts have the boost button somewhere else? Ah yeah that would make sense it was a pic of an auto I saw it on, cheers man
-
Is the offset not a bit low? As in they will stick out a bit? I read somewhere Glanzas are 35-42 offset but I may be wrong.
-
On a 98 spec Glanza to the right of the low boost button on the drivers side, what are the two buttons on top of each other for, anyone got a pic? Mine has been replaced with a fog light button, tempted to get it all put back to how it should be.

I went to toyota yday and got some, the guy was really helpful, i asked him how much i'd needfor a starlet and he didn't know but asked one of the technicians for me, which apparently I should have enough with one 5l bottle, so thats what I bought, and the lad even put me some discount on, nice to have decent service at a main dealers Lets hope it is enough coolant lol
-
So you just use any coolant then? Do you know how many 5l bottles I'll need? whats the diff between pink and red? Cheers
-
Ah I see, I'll see the price but im on a tight budget atm so hoping 5 litres will do :/ N ahh yeah thats the way I thought, need to fit a new stat anyway, gonna flush the matrix out at the same time N yeah I've been thinking there was no jack lol, i'm stumped about this plastic strip though lol Ah I see, I'd hope to go for pre-mixed as I dunno where to get distilled water, unless de-ionised water is the same? Does anyone know if one ready mixed will do?
-
I'm gonna get the Toyota red stuff, I checked a website which said the starlet takes about 4 litres so 1 5 litre one should do shouldnt it? If i understand correctly flushing means dropping the old, flushing with water then filling with new? And ahh ive found it, didn't know I had a jack lol thanks. N hmm i'll get a pic lol
-
ah okay i'll probs use that then, yeah i wont mix it with any water but you dunno what garages are like these days topping up fluids and stuff...would a 5l premixed bottle be enough for a complete flush? And itll be okay to use after flushing the system with water yeah haha? Also....where is the jack hideaway bit in the starlet? Is there a white strip of plastic with two bolt holes thats meant to go anywhere in the boot....i was given it with my glanza but dunno where it goes haha?

YEAH I JUST REALISED THATS THE LINK I READ EARLIER....ITS THE MIXING BIT THAT WORRIES ME IN CASE THE CGARAGE OR SOMEBODY ELSE tops it up with water lol,  AND THEN SOMETHING GOES WRONG :/ AND AH I SEE, ITS ABOUT 35 QUID ON EBAY BUT ILL RING TOYOTA SEE WHAT THEY SAY.    CHEERS
-
Thats a good point tbh, but then why do people use different brands of engine oil...etc the coolant i linked isnt exactly universal its model specific but does cover a few models...basically they have to make it suitable for your engine? Ill have a read of that link now starlet sr....i'll probs go for the toyota red...how much is it? EDIT: that link is the one i read mate....the not mixing part is what scares me...what if the garage put some water in to try be helpful or something....it would be likely to cause damage, no?
-
Yeah thats what I meant but with the Toyota stuff if you need to top up with water for an emergency u cant apparently? And yeah I'm a bit fussy....dunno what to go for as i've used the comma stuff before in toher cars and its been fine, but i'm trying to treat the glanza extra special lol.
-
Is it vital that I use Toyota red coolant or can I use this: http://www.commaoil.com/productsguide/view/6/351/XSR5L Reason I ask is I already have some of this at home, also you can mix this with water without it being dangerous which I hear isn't the same with the Toyota stuff? Cheers

Ah brill, i'll get one ordered then, thanks
