  1. Oh well then, still dont get why that hole is there in the rod then lol And yeh so it must work out at 9.1, with them being domed they are 9.4.1 so with them being custom flat tops it works out at 9.1 Ideal! And another question, the standard crank pully on the 5efe will be a NON harmonic one will it not? Will i gain anything from fitting the harmonic damper off my 4efte onto it or not?
  2. Nope thats a load of shite lol, its like 1 or 2 threads on the whole internet where people have no idea. They are a Group N rally turbo and can cope with decent boost pressures!
  3. Ahh so it does have one then, the other rods i have seen dont have this? Or do they? And yeh i know what you mean but standard domed pistons in a 5e dont equal that high a compression ratio so why would these flat ones? They arent a 4e based piston, they are both designed purely for 5e use.
  4. What is that small hole then on the big end in the bottom photo? And yeh they seem to do that a lot He said there definitely 9.1 Compression ratio though???
  5. From alamo? They are custom specced pistons etc. I went for 9.1 just trying to work out how i can lower it just a tad to make it more reliable Higher comp is better if you can keep det at bay which should be fine on 99 ron fuel
  6. Depends on the VF turbo dude. some of the old ones dont like much above 1.4 bar. Like the VF24 I have but they will still flow 320-330 with the spool of a TD04 Vf35s etc can do 1.7 bar etc all day long Im going 5E VF24 So im interested to see how early it spools!
  7. Weird one then, mabye a bit hit and miss lol Nice little update today, Rods and pistons arrived so got them assembled straight away and took a few photos The engine is also completely stripped, and i have began the tiring process of porting, boring, deburring etc etc off the block, and of the head. Some of the casting is shocking on these blocks, bottom end especially on the oil ways to the head, the head is miles off from the headgasket etc so i have spent about 9hours so far cleaning everything up! Few photos below. Boxes http://s280.photobucket.com/user/thetoffinator/
  8. Pics are uploading now, will pop them in here when there done. And i dont think it has them, where are they usually on the rods? At the top under the pistons or on the bottom? Here are the photos of the pistons and rods http://s280.photobucket.com/user/thetoffinator/media/20130724_202351_zpsfc1f81f1.jpg.html'> http://s280.photobucket.com/user/thetoffinator/media/20130724_202409_zps1a6806ed.jpg.html'> http://s280.photobucket.com/user/thetoffinator/media/20130724_202228_zps0f5eae49.jpg.html'> http://s280.photobucket.com/user/thetoffinator/media/20130724_202429_zps50f82bab.jpg.html'>
  9. No dude i havent gone over the top on the porting side, more of a smoothing/restriction removing job! And yep exhaust side is quite smooth (Smoother than standard by a long way lol) But inlet is still rough. I only took a small amount of the inlet side just to match the gasket really and remove the small marks/casts. And yeh im talking to him now. With them being custom Alamo specs on both the rods and pistons im unsure on what they base compression on! So will find out and update
  10. Yeh i started on it last night, spent a few hours on the inlet and exhaust ports, massive amounts of shite casting/restriction in the exhaust side which i removed and polished off, 1 exhaust side valves path was good and straight, the other is absolutely shite and doesnt flow anywhere near as much by looking at it so i evened them out. Will get some photos up. And yeh theres loads of poor casting all over it, will be gone shortly! And lol the pistons have arrived and they are indeed flat topped, have emailed alamo to see what the crack is. Only thing is they are custom pistons with a custo
  11. Yeh i didnt mean just starlets its all the tercel 5e turbos etc they all seem to use alamo alot! And yeh i plan on really just smoothing and gasket matching pretty much everything, including the inlet which is pretty good anyway, but exhaust side is poor so will be giving that a bit of work, Looking at the head today it looks shocking inside! And thanks dude, im unsure on what pistons they are, i have messaged alamo to see what they say its based on, im guessing 5e but i will see what they say, possibly flat tops but i dont think so TT
  12. Quick search of the lifter P/N shows they fit allsorts, 3sgte 4age etc, is this true? http://forums.club4ag.com/zerothread?cmd=print&id=15422
  13. A quick google session brings loads of Alamo results up, they do a hell of a lot of toyota stuff/work And yeh im going to have a look see what they do, few results for the 9.1 wisecos mind but not much info off forums. And i doubt im going to be running that sort of power lol, want it to be a responsive fast road/track car really not chasing figures I will be very happy if i get over 300 tbh! And yeh i will try work it out, had a quick go and it didnt seem right so i went wrong somewhere! And thanks dude when i get the pistons i will try work it out:) Another thing i ha
  14. As above 4EFTE Valve springs or uprated ones please:) Thanks
  15. Is there enough thread space to tighten another nut onto it? could try that
  16. Will transform your car man! Get it bought liam
  17. Yeh I was very impressed by that, they obviously trust there design! And yeh ALAMO, they were down to $820 so I made an offer and he accepted, top bloke to deal with also would deffo reccomened him. And yeh your correct it is an old design, But a basic 5EFTE Is 9.1 (IE 4EFTE Pistons on 5efe rods) And they seem to hold very good power as standard, if I raise it slightly with a 1.4mm gasket, what sort of ratio will it drop to? I know even turboed 4efes cope with a bit of boost, so im thinking a well built blueprinted engine should cope with decent boost on decent fuel at a high 8:7 8:8 Ratio su
  18. Yeh that was it dude! And lol yeh i bet a few people have! And give them a google there an american firm, quite big over there just a generic h beam i think so same discussion again lol. And yep im guessing there flat topped, soon see they might be here tommorow so i will let you know. Fuel will be mininum Vpower at all times as well. And hmm wonder why that would be? It isnt exactly a high figure? Cant decide beetween a 1.4mm or 2.0mm gasket now them. 9.1 is standard 5efe compression is it not? So possibly based on standard 5e pistons? I payed £610 delivered from the USA for them so had to
  19. No mate on an AUDI of some sorts And yeh im still unsure on the oil squirter idea, if my machinist is competent enough i will get him to do it. On another note though is i didnt get maxspeedingrods as they were out of stock for a while!!! so i ended up with ASC Rods and WISECO Pistons Another question also is compression ratio, i have ordered 9:1 Compression pistons, what sort of compression ratio would be ideal? Im not going to be running mega boost and dragging the car, i want it to be nice and responsive! im guessing the 9.1 ratio is based on a standard gasket of 1.0mm? Should i lower
  20. Proper yorkshire lot dont mind a bit of rain ;)
  21. My N/A Always managed 115 at least, 120 it did but it took a bit longer, that was 125.000Miles and burning oil lol
  22. This lot were at the isle of man! was properly quick to watch looked mega sketchy, they were doing daft burnouts on the thing lol
  23. I will be up for this, will be nice to get a few people out!
  24. the 2 17s on the back hold the carrier on, theres nothing else dude
  25. As above thats all there is too it, 2 bolts for the caliper whip it off, then the disc may be stuck on just give it a crack with a hammer, clean the surfaces etc up and reassmble, make sure to use copper grease!
