Hello all

I know its a bit of a stupid question, but is it ok to drive a car without a rear bumper. I do have the rear bumper but due to some hairline cracks would like to get it in for a respray. However i am very reluntant to leave my car a bodyshop for a couple of days. Therefore was wondering if i take it to the bodyshop, they can take the bumper off and i'll take the car back home and then bring it back once the bumper has been resprayed. Although i may need to take the car to work and back which is 10 miles each way.

However on the same topic how long would a respray take, i've been told that i need to leave the bumper for a couple of days. However i've also seen adverts my mobile repairers that come out to your car, respray the bumper in their van and then just fit it back on all in around 3 hours.

Any info much appreciated.

Thank

Just act dumb if you get pulled and say it must of fell off :)

Im sure you'd be OK for a few days.

Front bumper no, although I had my bumper off and took it for a drive with a big ass intercooler and air filter hanging out the front :)

As long as there is no sharp projections you should be ok..

"Body Condition

This part of the examination applies to all vehicles

4. Examine the bodywork for excessive corrosion or damage resulting in sharp edges which are likely to cause injury.

Reasons for rejection: A sharp edge or projection, caused by corrosion or damage, which renders the vehicle dangerous to other road users including pedestrians."

Yes i phoned the police before while i was spraying my bumper and said i need the car for work so was desperate.

They told me aslong as theres no sharp edges and the number plate is at the furthest front part of the car i should be ok but traffic cops will stop you like.
