Guest Enzo
just wandered if drilling carbon fibre has any adverse affects like cracking or splitingneed to dril two washer jets into the bonnet for all this shit weather
Mikey Jay
No washer jets? That's mad!
SiCaln
from what I've heard its best to tape up the area then drill thru and apply a little superglue to the inside of the holes to ensure a seal then to let em dry before fitting washer jets
Idrees
Yeah deffo tape up the area around it, you dont want the drill to slip and scratch!!
NeilH
you be better off taking the bonnet off the car and drilling it from the under side, then if you do slip and scratch it who gives a fuck.
Guest daveburwash
Thats not a good idea
SiCaln
then it would burr outwards and all pressure would be placed on the top surface
lobotomy
Or you could drill your washer jets into the scuttle panel?? But Si's method is the one I've heard from most places. You need to seal the inner plys well or they'll absorb water and seperate, super glue or epoxy resin.
rob_bower
Or you could drill your washer jets into the scuttle panel?? That might be an interesting idea it would keep the nice clean smooooooth looks of the carbon bonnet. But still be practical

NeilH
yeah but the varis is the only one thats a proper carbon fibre bonnet. the carbon culture one is a carbon layer over a fibreglass frame.
NightSpirit
not sure if you've already done this, but I drilled the carbon bonnet on the mr2 to fit bonnet pins (very wise move) and had no prblems, metal bit went through it like a hot knife through butter.Another point to make, is why not get the washer jets from a Pug 407 (I think it's that model) that sit on the wipers themselves...I have these on the 2 also and they look and work perfectly
Guest Enzo
thanx night spirit but im one step ahead of you, found these on ebay from a company called storm that specialises in single wipers.these only work out at 9 quid, problem solved, job doneim also gona get the smooth cases toothanx for everyones input
*Toymota*
i still have no washer jets and havent since i got the carbon bonnet. i may get wipers with washer jets built in or fit the washers on the plastic grill stuff at the back of the bonnet where the wipers are attached.my boyfriend and his friend had to drill huge holes in my carbon bonnet for my bonnet pins! it was very scary! lol
SiCaln
oh they look cool, let me know how u get on with em may want a set myself

Mikey Jay
Probably a very very daft question, but why have bonnet pins?Surely the normal latch thingy is good enough at holding the bonnet down?
SiCaln
no its not the bonnets way less than stock so they dont have their own weight to hold em down, and can open at high speed
Guest Enzo
happened to a mate, if it happened to me im sure id soil my boxers a wee bit especialy if it was at hi speed lol
