Hawwy
Just got somebody to weld wastegate i know its a shit job lol but will it be okay does it look ok? Does it have to be airtight?
AdamB
Aslong as there is enough weld overlapping the wastegate to keep it shut it should be ok. It will be air tight when the wastegate is shut anyway mate so wouldn't worry too much about that.

Flaminsam
The problem you have is your trying to weld cast iron to steel. :/

BoGlE
Just a couple of tacs would of been suitable but welding the whole thing is definatly strong enough.
Bean
its not just holding the penny shut you need to bother about. its when the things welded the heat can warp the housing or penny causing it not to seal.
5T4R7ET N/A
i think you might need to do it again, In my experience that look ametuer mig welded, you need to clean up the steel where you want to weld, sand it for good contact. do the same for where the earthing clamp will be put on.then turn the voltage up to max and slow the wire speed down a bit. try to keep the welding tip close to were your welding for best penetration.tack it first and do a 1/4 of the area at a time, opposite sides first. Hawwy
Ive put it together already:(Sure it will not just do it Edited August 5, 2012 by Hawwy
Jamie1st
I heard that the w/g flap should just have a little bit of weld to hold it shut and you shouldn't weld all the way round?
Hawwy
Thats what i heard too and reading thru the thread i thought its a bonus having it all done
A L 3 X
I heard that the w/g flap should just have a little bit of weld to hold it shut and you shouldn't weld all the way round?Surely thats only so you can untack it if you want to go back to standard?
Liam_D
Welding all the way round is fine, mines done like that and ive ran it for a year and a half now. Its only good to tac it if you are thinking of unwelding it.It should be fine mate, aslong as its holding the penny shut. Just make sure the welds are all done properly and theres no chance of them coming loose and going through the turbo.
kingo228
looks like there is a fair few decent weld spots , should be strong enough i would say
Ryan-11
looks to me like he welded with out gas?
Matt1878
Top weld!
morgey
This may be a dumb question but couldnt you just wedge the arm from the outside of the turbo holdin it in the closed postion? Or do they tend to creep open when the boost is turned up or something?
A L 3 X
You can leave the actuator in place without vac lines attached, therefore holding it shut, but it's a bodge
Hawwy
Yes but its hassle making up an bracket
