fcd making car run shit. HELP!!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys.

Basically, when i went to the tuners to have my fueling done and boost turned up we could only make it to 0.8 cause 2 of the wires had been cut on the fcd by a previous owner (for unknown reaons). So i bought a new one and we fitted it last night, turned the car on and the EML light was on, i went to rev the car a bit and it just spluttered and cut out. So we cut the yellow and white wire in half, just like how the old fcd was cut. And it ran fine like before.. Now obviously this is why the wires got cut in the first place but i can't turn the boost up without all of the wires there can i? (so the tuner guy said). So what do i do? Why is it making the eml light on when the yellow n white wires are connected?

HELP.

It's HKS bro's.

Yeah i know that haha, but when we hooked the NEW one but to how it was supposed to be done, following the wiring diagram the car ran like shit WITH the yellow and white connected but fine with them cut! :(((((

I just wana know WHY it runs so bad with all of the wires connected :s.

Few ideas:

Have you got the correct HKS FCD for a starlet?

Does it hit fuel cut with the boost turned up without the FCD fitted?

Just wondering if you have a mapped ecu in there thats not marked up and the fcd is upsetting it. I've had a mapped ecu before with no external signs that it was mapped only when i opened it up could i see the daughter board.

On the ad it said it was 100% suitable for ep82 and ep91.

It doesn't hit fuel cut, works fine.

I have an oem ecu dude, as far as i know anyway :s.

Im not too familiar with electrics TBH, my friend does all my stuff (works in a car electronics store), knows what he's doing. Anyway, when i went to get the fuel set up the guy said we cant run it at a bar as planned cause of the wires being cut, so he said buy a new fcd n ill do it for nothing when you have the new one installed. so i got the new one and fitted all the wires but no luck, well it ran, but cut out when you revved it and the eml was on.

Just really want to know how to make it run ok with all the wires :(. I'll ring the guy today and tell him.

by the way the wiring diagram is looking ecu side, easiest thing to do is count down to each wire on the drawing then do the same on the ecu to check that each wire corresponds to the diagram.

im not saying your mechanic dont know his stuff but its easy to make a mistake and its clearly not the FCD at fault

mine did exactly this wednesday when fitting it dude, earth the black wire to the body, and make sure the red wire is connected up tidy, only needs a 5v feed set it to 12, try it, if it hits fuel cut, turn the car off and turn it to 11, then turn it down 1 notch at a time until you stop hitting fuel cut.

haha let me know how it went dude, hoping it went okay

also, russ78, the wiring diagram is looking at the ecu as though the plugs are in it, and you looking from the wire side

they need to be looked at like the loom/plug is in your hand like so:

the diagram is of the ecu side meaning its the female end or the ecu showing what the male plug plugs into its a guide to show you corrisponding pins so obvously you would wire it from the back as this would be how it plugs into the ecu

but i can see how you think it meant something else
