FreedomCore
To be perfectly honest, I know shit all about how to lower a car. So take what ever I say with a pinch of stupid and a dash or moron. So I want to lower my car a bit. Just so it looks tidy. Nothing ridiculous. And ill be going with springs as I don't have a fortune to my name. So to summarise. I drive an SR on standard suspensionCan I change just my springs? What tools would I need? Like anything special? How do I know what MM springs I need?Missed anything? Cheers
TrisK
Yeah you can change springs. Sockets, and spring compressors What mm depends how many mm lower you want to go
morgey
Springs will be ok as Sr's have uprated shocks over other uk models from factory. Altho as they are getting old they may wear out fairly quick so a new set of shocks wouldnt go a miss so whilst your at it get uprated ones. Spend more but spend once!! Spring compressors are a must but other than them a normal set of tools will be fine. Also sr's sit 25mm down as standard. So theoretically 40mm drop will sit 15mm lower. However some springs that claim 40mm can drop more. So see what other people recommend.
FreedomCore
Would I measure from the wheel arches to the centre of the wheels to determine how much of a drop I currently have and want? Very confused, even though I'm sure this is a simple premise.
FreedomCore
Can anyone recommend any of the ones currently for sale? I don't really know much about brands either

rmsnoel
Budget for wheel alignment too. Measure from your wheel centre to your arch, aiming for around 300mm. Remember the rears will be different because the axle.isnt centred until u get a panhard rod
rmsnoel
SR is already 25_30mm lower than.standard starlets and with old age the springs may well have sagged.alittle lower. Secondhand coilovers can be got for 200quid these days. Id buy them if your a fan of stanced motors. SR springs are hard beat as lowering springs go....
FreedomCore
Ill see. I would like it lower. But im torn between saving for college, saving for moving and my car
PaulStarletSR
u can also use mole grips as spring clamps, does the same job tbh. the springs i had on my SR shocks settled alot lower than 40mm, looked really sweet but just watch when takin the weight out the back if u ever do because itl raise back up slightly.observe
