StuDoc 72
Has anyone managed to fit an FMIC without having to cut their front bumper? My main issue is that it has the optional lip on it also which doesnt help matters would I be best of just getting a new bumper?
TurboTobz
Mines on in cut, it was on before I got the car though I think what they done was removed the crash bar instead to allow plenty of room for it.I've seen people cut the bottom of there crash bar out to facilitate and hold the fmic they cut a length out of the bottom and middle so you remove a L shaped section spin it and weld it bak in so you have an indent that helps hold the intercooler!Rob H has done it and got pics iirc! JayJ
I have JAM fmic and my bumper has been cut a lot and indeed looks terribly ugly Edited May 22, 2013 by JayJ
StuDoc 72
Stolen from that guys thread in the general section. Mate i actually was looking at this earlier and made me ask the question on problem is I cant tell from the pic if it has been cut or not. As the only bit that needs cut is 2 small curves where the entrance and exit pipes are on the cooler. just dont want to have to cut my splitter tbh.
StuDoc 72
Mind you Rob that cooler looks like its sitting lower than mine did when I test fitted it last night. Maybe lowering it is the key to making it fit.
Beastmode panda
hmm, yeah It would depend on the size of it a lot I guess mate! the only thing you can do is mount the intercooler with zip ties starting low then keep clicking in higher and higher till it fits bud! WallaceGlanza
It all depends on the cooler you're using - I haven't had a to trim either the 96 or 98 bumpers on mine.
StuDoc 72
Its one of those ebay efforts same as the one in that pic looks so it comes with a shitty metal bracket that bolts on behind the bonnet catch. Im sure when i offered it up last night it was sitting higher than that one so possibly making it sit lower could help it fit.
Amjad
The thinner ones should be a lot better, and I'd just fabricate some chunky brackets for the bottom rather than upper brackets

Do you mean the ebay ones are thinner than HDI ones or somthing? I really dont have the time or money and dont want to go welding on extra brackets just for an FMIC mate. Im just pondering as to whether it will fit without cutting or not and if it does how to get it to fit. just look at liam D glanza its sexy as Is his fitted without any cutting? Amjad
Yeah HDi are really fat, about 4" I think? and others are 2" I didn't weld brackets, we just got some thick steel bars and bolted them to the front frame bit at the bottom, I don't use top brackets and it's solid
StuDoc 72
I see I might do something like that at a later date. Main concern is just getting it in there just now. I need to change my airfilter also as I have an HKS mushroom which is now too big lol.
