turbominicooper
right... where to start?? at the beginning is prob best. so in 2010 i picked up the following starlet for a few hundred squids off a matey of mine: got her down my garage and let it sit for a while before deciding to get started on her, heres a walk round damage report: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGwujYp63wc first thing i did was get the car in my garage and stripped all the exterior, fixed any broken parts and resprayed the outside with 2 coats of Spies Hecker 2K 001 BLACK! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76yW3llf5gs after this i decided to go traveling and just before i went invested in a few engine bay parts (my plan was to sell whilst i was abroad to allow me to travel longer but this did not happen) when i returned from travelling i got some cash together and injected £1000 worth of service parts and other bits n bobs to make her look sweet as: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zqpABJDmAw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSvFbSC3Aso now she was looking sweet, i needed to take the biggest step and attempt to register her (she was still on foreign plates). i booked in an exam at my local dvla (£400+) and failed miserably with 15 defects! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duvqdBWeGMA a further 2 visits and a few hundred more in parts later and it was done, she was finally on local plates and legal to drive. now the fun began and i could start adding the stack of mods i had ready https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIH3ug-zCI0 and since then: this is her as she stood the other night, come along was considering the opening image on this thread TO BE CONTINUED... turbominicooper
update to my build... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86GVi0Fj1hw toyosport manifolddecat pipecool air intakepreparation for screamer needs a bit of tweaking with the screamer but I have a brand new exhaust housing part coming down so when it arrives I plan to grind the wastegate hole and weld a plate in between the wg and exhaust and then refit screamer... will be good! turbominicooper
UPDATE! So been driving her about and found my 2nd hand manifold is a bit blowy, not to mention my turbo has started screeching. Car is now off the road so i decided id paint the engine bay whilst juggling the other issues: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BSOUwShwKY Currently working on the turbo side of things; refacing manifold, porting wastegate and sealing the decat/screamer so there is no leaks off boost. Also in the pipeline is a ct9/ct20 hybrid of which i will post at a later date...
turbominicooper
didnt realise i hadnt updated this thread for over 6 months so gonna hammer it in one post. so this is where i left you all: at the time i was working on a perfect decat screamer (no noise off boost, tons on boost) but i just couldnt get the seal and it sounded horrible so reverted to just a decat pipe which suited me better. i was also struggling with boost loss due to the weakness of the baileys DV spring so i managed to get an unbranded one of a mate who ran it on his evo and the performance was a lot better.originally when i registered my car the rear struts failed the test so i had to order some standard ones, obviously i wanted a full set of ohlins on so i sent them away for a rebuild and now they are back on the car. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7anbIf4498 as we all know the winter is a testing time for all cars but specially classics. through the winter ive:- replaced a faulty starter motor- fixed a puncture of which i had to drive a mile on flat damaging my front suspension- my ct9 is now blowing smoke so i can only run it a 6psi- and also i breached the camshaft seal so that had to be re-sealed:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMaZ9gAu1PQ heres how she was running before the turbo gave up the ghost:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0TrW_4uKcY managed to do some fault finding over the winter such as ecu faults, fixing the high revs and other random bits. ...but this is the best part of the winter so far - Toyota Sera 5EFHE:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_KGCiHGnqw the plan:- 5e Engine out- Strip Sera ancillaries- swap thermostat housing- paint block- replace gaskets once ready 4e out and merge ancillaries with 5e before fitting in GT, hopefully by then my ct20/9 hybrid will be ready! exciting times

turbominicooper
thought best do a mid year update... since i bought the sera (dream motor - 5efhe) i had to replace the ct9 so i could carry on driving the car. managed to source a 'cheap' td04 from Socks and by definition of cheap it would seem it was equally as dodgy as the td04 but as the overall performance was greater i was still happy with it depsite being a smoke bomb lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IvfiYoCkS1I i then pursued the route of running the 5efhe as a high compression td04 but to get away with it i needed to do a compression test: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFA8QizL1Ecthe results not so good, 90psi means a strip and rebuild completely stuffing up my plans of a quick swap. ive since made the decision to remove the 4efte and run the 5efhe naturally aspirated until ive rebuilt the 4efte into the Sera and have a run around during the 5efhte build: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5YH-1wwMWs the switch is never straight forward when going from an automatic 5e NA into a 4efte manual turbo environment, the first problem encountered was the flywheel differences (in all fairness was a quick/cheap fix at £35 a flywheel): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBX7E2tE0XQ so this is how my GT stands, a stage 1 5efhe with no turbo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=se7Ggx23daI so thats all your getting for now until that engine comes back out

turbominicooper
5EFHE 5EFHE, ive got a 5EFHE So this is something i always wanted in my GT and now i have it... just needs to get rebuilt to handle boost So stripped engine down and it was the boggiest lump ive ever put hands on, absolute grot everywhere https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yj3Qz8-hGZ0 Ive had it sat on the bench gathering dust but the last few days grabbed myself a bucket of petrol, a toothbrush, a pan brush and a slither of scotch and the results.... belter! and even ground all the carbon off the valves. and whilst in the mood did my vtec for my mini so just need to hone the block, refit the valves and then im ready to buy the rebuild kit; bearings, gaskets etc. excited! turbominicooper
so alot happens in a month. was starting to feel like i had stalled a bit but where i hit roadblocks i was able to do other stuff to the car id had hidden for a while such as fitting the ALK id had for over a year and the camber bolts i got xmas 2014: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tk5p16lK67Q also had to get an extension bit made up for the exhaust, a) cause whoever id bought it off cut it short when repairing flexi and needed to extend anyway for the height of the 5e: managed to run the buffer over it too whilst the manifold was being repaired ready for the sun then came the fun part, 1st start up and run: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WaMFnLtDDrU was running quite smokey and i thought it could be 1 of 3 things; 1) 370cc injectors running rich, 2) dodgy td04 i bought off jdm-ep (tbc) or 3) my oil drain hose wasnt sufficient enough (tbc). so i got a new innovate mtx-l fitted (cost me £130). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewgNpa0rVtkall readings suggested good on that level and plugs look clean so must be turbo related - looking this weekend (actually got a tf035hm on the way down) and then finally i also managed to install some data logging unit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfbG_h_PlrE which is so cool i did a little thread on it:http://www.ukstarletowners.com/topic/102509-on-screen-ecu-information-zf-toyobd1-data-logger/#entry1187411 will keep you posted on the turbo situation this next week; diagnose smoke (blue) tomorrow and then fit tf35 next week
